Data Engineer, Specialist (The Vanguard Group, Inc. / Malvern, PA) -- Write ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) processes, design database systems, utilize data transformation, normalization or consolidation, and develop tools for real-time and offline analytic processing; apply best practices of data quality and lineage; troubleshoot software and processes for data consistency and integrity; integrate large scale data from a variety of sources for business partners to generate insight and make decisions; optimize data pipelines; translate business specifications into design specifications and code; responsible for writing complex programs, ad hoc queries, and reports; ensure all code is well structured, includes sufficient documentation, and is easy to maintain and reuse; partner with internal clients to gain an enhanced understanding of business functions and informational needs; utilize expertise in tools, technologies, and applications/databases in specific business areas and company-wide systems; lead all phases of solution development; explain technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients and less experienced team members; test code thoroughly for accuracy of intended purpose; review end product with client to ensure adequate understanding; provide data analysis guidance as required; design and conduct training sessions on tools and data sources used by team and self-provisioners; provide job aids to team members and business users; test and implement new software releases through regression testing; identify issues and engage with vendors to resolve and elevate software into production. Requires Master's in Computer Science, Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology or closely related IT field and two years of experience in job offered or in IT position(s) including Data Engineer; or Bachelor's and five years of experience. Background in education, training or experience must include Python, SQL, Distributed computing platform/technology for data processing such as Hadoop or Hive, PySpark, Cloud Computation, ETL (Extract/Transform/Load). Company operates on hybrid model with three days in office and work-from-home available two days.
