About the role

The role services Aon’s operations in Asia and includes providing best in class commercial legal support to drive Aon’s capabilities. The role sits within the Aon Asia Regional Legal team in Philippines. The team currently consists of approximately 30+ Legal and Compliance colleagues spread across 5 locations.

To achieve strategic outcomes, this role will need to effectively support various subject matter experts within Aon’s Law Department in Asia. This includes, for example, supporting practice groups focused on specific solution lines, as well as M&A, corporate, commercial contracting, employment, dispute resolution where applicable. The role involves working closely with the Counsels within the Asia Regional Legal, Compliance and Privacy teams, as well as the Global Spend Management (procurement), internal audit, global tax / finance and global corporate secretarial teams in providing strategic solutions to the business.

What the day will look like

As a member of the Aon Asia Regional Legal team you will be working closely with various business units and corporate functions of the company and the Legal Department’s subject-matter and regional specialists. You will assist with the coordination and execution of standard agreement templates/legal databases. You will also help draft, review, and help finalize various agreements with our clients, vendors, insurers, affiliates, and other third parties using Aon standard templates.

You will actively contribute as a member of the Aon Asia legal team through team engagement opportunities, volunteering in pro-bono or charitable events, whilst also sharing lessons learnt to embed learnings and risk mitigation strategies within the team. In this role you will also assist the Legal Department in the review and improvement of contracting/advisory practices and procedures to improve efficiency and consistency where possible, including driving and implementing digitisation solutions.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Counsels in the preliminary drafting and reviewing of contracts and transactional documentation with clients, vendors, insurers, affiliates and other third parties based on Aon standard templates.

  • Providing “first review” of third-party changes proposed to Aon templates.

  • Supporting Counsels in follow-up actions in contractual negotiation with clients, vendors, insurers and other third parties.

  • Liaising and coordinating between business stakeholders and Counsels during the contract review process.

  • Supporting project management of corporate transactions across multiple jurisdictions, including executing instructions, assisting in the vetting of responses and completion.

  • Finalization of negotiated contracts /other transactional documents, and manage execution of legal documentation.

  • Supporting Counsels in the management and revision of template agreements, documentation, maintaining Legal Department’s template repository, and rolling out of new and updated template agreements.

  • Building a sound understanding of Aon’s policies, forms and contract procedures so as to provide support to Counsels, Business stakeholders and assure compliance with Aon’s policies.

  • Conducting legal research.

  • Assisting counsels in preparing trainings, quick guides and updates on key legal topics, and coordinating training, scheduling and reporting on training.

  • Responsible for general administrative work as needed to support the respective counsels in the Legal Department (i.e. gap analysis, contract management, maintaining local records, proofing, formatting and editing documents)

  • Responsible for general administrative work as needed to support the Operations functions within the L&C team to enhance team and department effectiveness (such as: (1) coordinating invoicing, expense forecasting, budget reporting; (2) assisting with matter opening, closing, updates, management and reporting; (3) maintaining team files, templates and precedents, and storage/communications; (4) arranging and coordinating meetings, events and conferences; (5) taking and keeping minutes of meetings; (6) processing and tracking expenses for the team and coordinating team travel arrangements).

  • Supporting ad-hoc projects and initiatives that may be allocated from time to time.

    Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • A minimum of 3 years L&C team administration and paralegal experience (experience in-house is beneficial, but not required)

  • Proven ability to support on a variety of legal transactions, projects with a mixture of administrative/commercial/corporate work.

  • Experience within the insurance/financial services industry preferred

  • Able to work as an integral part of a regional team, fostering teamwork and cultivating relationships.

    Qualifications

  • Preferably a Law degree or equivalent equivalent courses with law subjects or a law diploma or Paralegal Studies Certificate
