All workers should be physically able to meet and perform the work outlined in the contract for the entire period of time from 03/01/2025 to 12/15/2025. Workers will seed, transplant, cultivate, cut, house and strip tobacco. May also prepare barns and land, do maintenance of tools and equipment related to job. Worker should be able to bend, stoop and stand on their feet for long periods of time.Tobacco. Burley Tobacco: Duties include, but not limited to: Nursery care, laying, trimming, top trimming, storing and greasing and peeling. Workers will be trained for a period of two days (14 hours) after which the worker is expected to cut 100 sticks per hour - does not include dropped sticks. Other related jobs and duties may include cutting weeds between plants with a hoe: removing tops and shoots from plants, applying fertilizer (side dressing). Dark Fired Tobacco: Duties include but are not limited to: Nursery removal, placing, cutting buffers/greasing, cutting, storing and peeling. Workers will be required to cut wood and haul it to the barn to burn the tobacco. Wooden boards covered with sawdust are placed under the tobacco that is hanging in the barn. The boards are burned to smoke the tobacco and this is repeated until the tobacco reaches the appropriate color. Workers will remove the ashes that remain after the tobacco is burned. The worker is required to cut 50-60 sticks per hour. Air Cured Tobacco: Duties include but are not limited to: Nursery care, placing, cutting buffers/greasing, cutting, storing and peeling. Other Related Duties for All Types of Tobacco: Workers will cut the weeds between the plants with a pick or shovel; cutting tops and suckers on plants, and applying fertilizer. Forage: Duties to include, but not limited to: Soil preparation, operating tillage equipment, cutting equipment. Hauling bales to storage barns / farms that purchase hay. Planting, Cultivating, & Harvesting Row Crop: Duties to include, but not limited to: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store grain crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans, etc. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, and drill to tractor and drive tractor in field to till soil and plant / cultivate crop. Perform variety of other duties such as husking and shelling corn, lubricating and repairing farm machinery and unloading grain onto conveyors to storage bins and elevators. Assist in set-up of product for sale of crop. Planting, Cultivating, & Harvesting Vegetables/Fruits: Duties to include, but not limited to: Workers may drive and operate farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store vegetables. Attach farm implements such as plow, disc, and drill to tractor and drive tractor in field to till soil and plant / cultivate crop. Perform variety of other duties such as lubricating and repairing farm machinery. May plan and schedule plowing, cultivating and harvesting operations. Plant, cultivate, harvest, & pack vegetables (boxes, buckets & crates). Lay plastic, setting plants, weeding (w/ hoe & by hand), driving stakes, grading / sorting and activities associated with vegetable production. Assist in set-up of product for sale of crop. Nursery: Duties to include, but not limited to: Perform any combination of the following duties concerned with preparing soil and growth media, cultivating and otherwise participating in horticulture activities. Hauls and spreads topsoil, fertilizer, etc to condition land. Dig, rake and screen soil and fill cold frame and hot beds to prepare them for planting. Plant, spray, weed and water plants, shrubs and trees. Ties, bunches, wraps and pack flowers, plants and shrubs to fill orders. Load trucks for marketing. Work on potting line transplanting seedlings into selling containers and place in growing area. Assist with delivery of product to customer. Maintenance on farm equipment required in operation. Assist in set-up of product for sale of crop. Sod: The tasks to be performed will include, but not limited to: preparing of ground, seeding & fertilizing. Harvesting of sod by operating a sod-cutting machine. Transfer of so rolls, weighing up to 50 lbs, from sod harvester to pallet. Load pallets on truck and help tarp truck. Assist in loading sod from truck at delivery point and installation of sod at delivery point.
