JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Department of History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) of US/North American History with expected start date of August 18, 2025. The appointment is for a fixed term of one year (with possibility for renewal for one additional year), with a teaching responsibility of 2 undergraduate courses per semester: a large introductory lecture and a seminar or mid-sized lecture. Specific courses will be determined according to the curricular needs of the department. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have a teaching and research background in US/North American history, will be prepared to teach introductory surveys (17th-19th centuries) and to supervise teaching assistants (1-2) in the large lecture courses. Fall 2025 - -History 101: American History to the Civil War Era-the Origin and Growth of the US -Seminar/mid-sized lecture: topic TBD Spring 2026 - -History 101: American History to the Civil War Era-the Origin and Growth of the US *OR* History 344: The Age of the American Revolution, 1763-1789 -Seminar/mid-sized lecture: topic TBD The VAP will engage in the History Department\'s vibrant intellectual community and that of the university at large. A small Undergraduate Program service component may also be required. The VAP will not be expected to teach in the summer.
