JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: Dr. Jorge Osorio is a Professor in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine. He has a lengthy career in medical sciences, including virology, field epidemiological studies, vaccinology, antivirals and vector control programs. His research group studies molecular approaches to unravel host-pathogen interactions for emerging diseases. The laboratory is actively researching and developing novel human and animal vaccines for diseases including highly pathogenic avian influenza, dengue, chikungunya, plague, rabies and SARS-CoV-2. The successful applicant for this position will work at the UW Hanson Biomedical Sciences building. Duties will include laboratory and animal studies to test and evaluate vaccines. This position will also assist with laboratory management duties, such as biosafety and animal protocol development and revisions, ordering supplies and keeping laboratory records. The position will involve close collaboration with other research teams at the University of Wisconsin and beyond. Duties will also include sharing of research findings with these collaborators. Excellent written and oral communication skills are therefore essential. Responsibilities: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision. 45% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results 5% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area.
