Indian Health Service Behavioral Health Supervisor in Madison Heights, Virginia

Summary This position is located at the Mid-Atlantic Service Unit (MASU), Nashville Area Indian Health Service in Madison Heights, VA. The Behavioral Health Supervisor will provide direct patient care and oversight for the outpatient behavioral health program staff who provide comprehensive mental health services to Indian Health Service patients. This position will report to the Director of Behavioral Health. Responsibilities Assists the behavioral health program with peer review and case consultation on a regular basis. Advises medical staff and other allied health staff on all matters related to behavioral health. Handling mental health crises such as suicidal behavior, violent behavior, and agitated psychotic behavior along with the ability to enlist other staff in such emergencies. Supervises the behavioral health staff; plans work to be accomplished by subordinates based on priorities and capabilities of employees. Participates as a psychological consultant for members of the patient care team and advises staff members on the problems arising in the course of patient treatment. Provides a wide range of outpatient behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and adults. Requirements Conditions of Employment Selectee may be subject to a probationary period. U.S. Citizenship is required. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes. A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: providing clinical intervention services as a licensed and independent provider is required. Have professional knowledge of child and adult mental health and substance abuse problems, and child and adult evaluation, diagnosis and treatment. Professional knowledge of broad range of concepts, principles and practices involving clinical applications of mental health and social services in order to address a broad and complex range of patients. Having knowledge of and ability to use established techniques in the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of mental emotional and behavioral disorders. Counseling using theoretical modalities, with emphasis in conducting evidence based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and person-centered therapy. Having general knowledge of pharmaceutical medication to alleviate depression, anxiety and alcohol withdrawal or cravings. Knowlege and skill in handling mental health crisis. Knowledge of organizations and systems. Selective Placement Factor: Current valid and unrestricted Licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) OR Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP) that allows for the provision of independent behavioral health services.
