Chippewa Valley Schools Marketing Program Assistant in Macomb, Michigan

Title:  Marketing Program Assistant  FLSA:  Non- Exempt Reports to:  Director of CTE  Updated:October 2023 Position Summary 9:15am - 12:15pm Supports the certified classroom teacher in the CTE Marketing program at Dakota High School. Under the direction of the classroom teacher, the candidate will assist in the supervision and instruction of students, which includes various hospitality and culinary activities. Duties and Responsibilities (These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA) Assists the instructor with the supervision of students as they participate in the work-based learning experience, which is the student-operated retail store(s). Keeps instructor apprised of any situations which need teacher assistance or intervention. Observes students as they perform the tasks and duties related to successfully operating a retail enterprise. Assists in guiding students, when needed, to ensure that they are performing their proper job duties correctly. Provides verbal clarification to students first, and demonstrates or models, when necessary, a particular skill that is still being performed incorrectly by a student. May assist in the supervision of DECA-related activities/objectives which are integrated into the Marketing curriculum. Reinforces the importance of transferable skills by modeling appropriate communications and behaviors. May perform duties such as printing or making copies of instructional materials. May participate in these same duties during special events such as Curriculum Night, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Open House, Cougar Days, etc. when the student, work-based learning enterprise is also in operation. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and one of the following: Associates degree or higher in related field preferred 4,000 hours of recent/relevant work experience in retail/marketing preferred Experience: Previous work experience in retail/marketing, required. Previous experience working with high school students/special needs students, in a retail/marketing learning environment, preferred.

Knowledge: Knowledge of employability skills including career searches, resume writing, career paths, post-secondary educational and apprenticeship options, preferred. Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations, required. Skills: Basic computer skills, required. Math skills as they are applied within in the context of restaurant operations, required. Problem solving and critical thinking skills, required. Strong interpersonal skills, required. Good verbal and written communication skills, required. Basic computer skills, required.

Abilities: Ability to follow and model all safety precautions and procedures, required. Ability to be caring, understanding, and friendly towards students, required. Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, required. Ability to follow and model all OSHA and district safety precautions and procedures, and assist the teacher in training students in the correct and safe operation of all retail storefront and hospitality equip
