Amazon Structural Manager in Luxembourg, Luxembourg

Description

Amazon’s EU Design & Construction team is responsible for the construction of Amazon’s large network of European building infrastructure such as Fulfillment Centers, Cross Dock buildings and last mile delivery stations, and also refurbishments of existing infrastructure.

We now require an experienced Structural expert to support us with the tremendous growth of our European network. You will be responsible for the definition and improvement of all structural systems we design and implement to our buildings. We require holistic expertise to advise to internal and external teams and we wish to improve and optimize the design, construction and operation of these subjects.

You will be located in the Luxembourg office of the EU Engineering Services team, who are delivering all parts of our buildings, including mechanical handling equipment and Amazon Robotics equipment.

You will be our Subject Matter Expert for Timber, Metal and Concrete structures, and the link between the Construction team, which manage ongoing projects on the ground, the Pre-construction team which are setting these projects up, the Worldwide Design team which issue the prototype templates and the Worldwide Sustainability team.

You will review and consult templates and execution designs and concepts, and bring in improvements including sustainability step changes. You will also support us with BIM implementation and improvement of our asset documentation. And there will be countless other things.

This opportunity combines strong engineering, construction, planning, project management and contract management capabilities. We require a talent with proven track record in design and engineering, permitting and project management for timber, metal and concrete structures. The role will be based in Luxembourg, and will include frequent travel to several locations throughout EU.

Responsibilities

· Review, challenge and improve our structural design for template prototypes and new- built or refurbishment projects

· Lead technical program reviews and drive schedule acceleration, cost savings, standardization

· Define and implement strategies for data collection and provision for Information Management on existing and new real estate assets

· Collect and sync feedback from developer, GCs and Consultants and internal stakeholders

· Assist Pre-construction and Construction Managers during design reviews, GC procurement, value engineering, tender reviews

· Deep dive on technical details and lead problem resolution on a need basis

· Provide expertise for structural sustainable solutions and materials’ embedded carbon

Basic Qualifications

  • · University Degree, B.S. or Master, in Structural Engineering

  • · Significant experience in structural engineering, execution, design or prototyping for timber, metal and concrete structures

  • · Proven technical leadership experience in development and implementation of large scale, complex projects

  • · Wworking knowledge using MS Excel, AutoCAD, MS Project and related software

  • The role will be based in Lux with 50% of time travelling either domestically or to other EMEA countries

Preferred Qualifications

  • · Work experience within field execution, i.e. with General Contractors

  • · Project management certification (PMP or equivalent)

  • · Experience in fire strategies related to the structural design

  • · Construction contract and designer contract legal experience, Blue Book, FIDIC, Code law contracts

  • · Working and architectural knowledge using BIM and / or 3D modelling tools, Revit and related

  • · Cost Management or Quantity Surveying experience

  • · Flexibility to travel up to 50% across projects in Europe

  • · French, German, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.
