KURTH MEMORIAL LIBRARY - Program Coordinator


DESCRIPTION

Responsible for juvenile library services. Assists patrons with locating materials, shelving books, and organizing materials. Provides library services and programming for all ages. Networks with community schools, agencies, and other youth-oriented organizations. Plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the library and ensuring a positive experience for library visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university, or a related degree, required.

Minimum of two years of experience working with youth in a library or educational setting, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Must possess a valid Class C driver's license at the time of placement to perform outreach duties.

Proficiency in Spanish preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of current trends in library services for children and young adults preferred.

Knowledge of various computer programs, including the Microsoft Office suite, online databases, and other internet resources related to assignments and duties.

Ability to communicate effectively with others, orally and in writing, including through email, and interact professionally and courteously with diverse individuals, including staff, other City employees, volunteers, and the general public.

Ability to recognize and set priorities, using initiative and independent judgment in a variety of situations.

Ability to speak distinctly and manage large groups of people in an orderly and polite manner.

Physical ability to walk, climb stairs, stand or sit for prolonged periods, kneel, crouch, push and pull a book cart weighing up to 250 lbs., and lift materials weighing up to 25 lbs.

MAJOR DUTIES

Plans and presents in-library and outreach programming for all ages, introducing new programs and special events that respond to patron and community demand.

Researches and makes arrangements with potential program presenters and performers.

Assigns, trains, and supervises other library staff assisting with program preparation and presentation.

Assists at all service desks, following and enforcing established policies and procedures for patron services, while setting a positive example with excellent customer service, remaining on task, and completing assigned duties in a timely and accurate manner.

Participates as a member of the library events planning team.

Performs other duties as assigned.

$16.59/hour
