Major/Essential Functions:

The Assistant Athletics Director of Broadcast Services leads the comprehensive operations of Texas Tech University's Athletics Broadcast Services. This position is responsible for overseeing all live event productions, ensuring high-quality broadcasts across multiple platforms, managing the broadcast team, and fostering partnerships with media entities. The Assistant Athletics Director works collaboratively with the Athletics Department, external media partners, and technology vendors to elevate the visibility of Texas Tech Athletics.

Leadership and Management:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Athletics Broadcast Services team, including full-time staff, freelancers, and student assistants/interns.

  • Manage all aspects of live broadcast and video screen productions for home athletics events across multiple sports, ensuring compliance with NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and broadcast partner standards.

  • Develop and maintain broadcast standards, procedures, and workflows that enhance operational efficiency and production quality.

  • Oversee recruitment, training, and evaluation of the broadcast team, ensuring continuous professional development and performance improvement.

Production Oversight:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute the live broadcast of athletic events, including directing camera operations, live commentary, graphics, and instant replay.

  • Ensure all broadcasts are delivered to broadcast partners and other platforms in a timely and professional manner.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in real-time during live broadcasts to minimize disruptions.

  • Supervise post-production processes, including editing, graphics integration, and distribution, to highlight the department's branding and marketing goals.

Technology and Equipment Management:

  • Maintain and update all broadcast equipment, ensuring the highest quality of technical production.

  • Lead the planning and implementation of new technologies, broadcast tools, and infrastructure enhancements in collaboration with external vendors and campus/athletics IT services.

  • Manage the broadcast facilities, including control rooms, fiber networks, and remote production kits for offsite events.

Collaboration and Partnership:

  • Work closely with athletics communications, marketing, and creative services teams to ensure alignment in branding, messaging, and overall production.

  • Liaise with external partners such as ESPN, Big 12 Conference, and other media outlets.

  • Foster strong relationships with stakeholders to maximize the visibility and promotion of Texas Tech Athletics.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget for the Broadcast Services unit, including equipment procurement, staffing, and operational expenses.

  • Ensure resource allocation aligns with departmental objectives and broadcast needs, optimizing expenditures to meet production goals.

Compliance and Quality Control:

  • Ensure all broadcasts comply with NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and ESPN broadcast standards.

  • Maintain a consistent level of production quality, staying current on industry trends and best practices.

  • Collaborate with the university's compliance office to ensure proper use of student-athletes likenesses in broadcasts and adherence to media agreements.

Innovation and Strategy:

  • Develop and implement strategies to grow the reach and impact of Texas Tech Athletics broadcasts, exploring new platforms and digital distribution methods.

  • Lead initiatives to innovate live streaming, fan engagement, and interaction via new technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in live sports production, including leadership roles.

  • Proven track record of managing live event broadcasts, preferably in collegiate athletics or professional sports.

  • Expertise in broadcast technologies.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, particularly in a live broadcast environment.

  • Experience with ESPN or other major broadcasting platforms.

  • Experience in budget management and vendor negotiation.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Three (3) years experience in an intercollegiate athletics department or other work experience that would demonstrate the necessary background and knowledge. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
