Mechanical Superintendent - Construction

KBR is providing Project Management Services encompassing Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning phase execution supporting KBR’s client Sonangol’s multi-billion-dollar grass roots Lobito Refinery Project in Angola Africa.

KBR is looking for a Mechanical Superintendent – Construction to assist in leading a site engineering support team on the Sonangol project. This position will review and provide input on the overall construction plan, procedures and construction requirements identified in the EPC Contract to ensure constructability. The Mechanical Superintendent – Construction will review construction organization and the manning, construction plans, detailed procedures of construction activity work schedules to assure efficiency in the execution of tasks, and the coordination of the distribution of construction work packages as necessary.

This position is located in Lobito Angola

Responsibilities:

  • Review tie-in philosophy, tie-in package & relevant procedures

  • Hands on experience in Oil & Gas

  • Monitor the EPC Contractor’s allocation of construction resources in consideration of relative priorities to meet the construction program and recommend any appropriate corrective action where shortage of resources might prejudice the program

  • Review and ensure that all construction procedures, method statements and Inspection & Test Plans are issued as final approved documents before the start of any related work

  • Monitor and manage inspection of the construction work performed by the EPC Contractor and/or its subcontractors to verify that such work is performed in compliance with the approved procedures and specifications, and that the workmanship is in accordance with appropriate standards of quality

  • Ensure that the EPC Contractor has mobilized representatives of VENDORS and/or LICENSORS as required to support the construction activities

  • Monitor the progress of work at SITE against the PROJECT Schedule and the development of punch lists and close out of listed items as WORKS progress

  • Monitor and ensure that the EPC Contractor provides all reports and test records in accordance with the provisions of the EPC Contract

  • Be fully conversant with HSEQ plan

  • Review Mechanical Completion/Pre-commissioning Manual

  • Assess contractor’s request for issuance of Mechanical Completion Certificate(s) and make recommendation to management on acceptability

  • Monitor and ensure that the work is performed in strict compliance with the safety procedures and requirements

Qualifications:

  • Typically requires 20+ years of experience in the construction industry

  • At least 15 + years in a supervisory role

  • Experience in Fabrication, Piping & Steel Structure

  • Proven ability with international projects

  • Must have ability to communicate fluently in both spoken and written English
