This is a hybrid onsite/remote opportunity where you will report to the WAPA location in Loveland, CO and have the flexibility to work from home based on business needs.
Our Customer’s Mission :
The Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) is a federal agency under the United States Department of Energy (DOE) that manages and operates high-voltage electric transmission systems across 15 western states. WAPA's mission is to market and deliver reliable, cost-based, renewable power and transmission services to its customers, while also promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. WAPA also manages and markets power from 56 federal hydroelectric power plants, which generate clean and renewable energy for 40 million customers.
Epsilon provides comprehensive and high-quality IT support to WAPA in the areas of; Software maintenance and development, Network, Database, and Operations Support/Management, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Cyber-Security, Solution Architecture, and Project Management.
An average day:
As System Administrator | Backup Management II, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our enterprise data backup systems, ensuring data integrity, security, and availability. In this position you will:
Manage and maintain enterprise backup systems, including PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM) and Data Domain (DD) appliances.
Perform routine maintenance, including application and operating system upgrades for backup software and hardware.
Monitor and optimize backup storage utilization, ensuring adequate capacity for future needs.
Troubleshoot and resolve backup and storage-related issues efficiently.
Implement and enforce role-based access controls (RBAC) on backup systems to ensure secure data management.
Configure and maintain data-at-rest encryption to safeguard sensitive backup data.
Ensure data replication for offsite storage, adhering to disaster recovery and business continuity policies.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of backup configurations, processes, and policies.
Utilize monitoring tools (such as Data Protection Advisor) to report on system health and backup performance (preferred).
Collaborate with IT teams to align backup strategies with organizational goals and security standards.
Basic Qualifications:
As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C), Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
3-5 years’ experience as a System Administrator, with a focus on backup management.
Proven experience managing enterprise backup systems, particularly with PPDM and DD.
Strong understanding of backup storage systems, data replication, and encryption techniques.
Proficiency in routine maintenance of backup software and hardware.
Familiarity with role-based access controls and safeguarding sensitive data.
Ability to troubleshoot complex backup and storage issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Data Protection Advisor (DPA) for reporting and analytics.
Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and implementation.
Certifications in relevant technologies or systems (e.g., Dell Technologies certifications for backup and recovery).
Other Requirements:
Must be able to pass federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust.
This position may require the ability to operate a government vehicle. The incumbent must be at least 18 years of age, able to obtain and maintain Defensive Drivers certification and have a valid state driver’s license.
