We are hiring a Speech-Language Pathologist for our growing team! The Speech-Language Pathologist (sometimes called speech therapists) will be working with children in the school population who have problems with speech or language, including related cognitive or social communication problems. They may be unable to speak at all, or they may speak with difficulty or have rhythm and fluency problems, such as stuttering. The speech-language pathologist may work with children who are unable to understand language or with those who have voice disorders, such as inappropriate pitch or a harsh voice. The Speech-Language pathologist will evaluate students for speech and language disorders and work with teachers, other school personnel, and parents to develop and carry out individual or group programs, provide counseling, and support classroom activities. They will also complete administrative tasks, including keeping accurate records and documenting billing information if necessary. They will record their initial evaluation and diagnoses, track treatment progress, and note any changes in an individual's condition or treatment plan.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with assigned school to provide speech therapy for identified children. ● Ensure that screening and evaluation procedures are provided for these students. 

  • Evaluate levels of speech, language, or swallowing difficulty. 

  • Ensure that due process procedures are followed. 

  • Identify treatment options. 

  • Create and carry out individual treatment plan that addresses specific functional needs. 

  • Teach children how to make sounds and improve their voices and maintain fluency. 

  • Help individuals improve vocabulary and sentence structure used in oral and written language. 

  • Work with children to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow ● Counsel with individuals and families on how to cope with communication and swallowing disorders. 

  • Maintains necessary records in a confidential manner.

  • Work, in conjunction with the Senior Director of Organizational Advancement to meet program needs for identified students. 

  • Schedules evaluations for those children determined through screening/referral process to be eligible. Works with other professionals(i.e. School Psychologist) to ensure a complete evaluation. 

  • Keeps all records required by law, and due process requirements, this includes permission forms, testing(screening and other), PEP’s and documentation of parental contact. 

  • Works with the Director of School Based Services to determine the most appropriate program direction. 

  • Assist in developing goals based on assessments to enhance communication skills and to improve classroom function. 

  • Complete other duties as assigned. 

    Key Experience and Education Needed:

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in speech pathology or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution 

  • Approved Certification with State of Kentucky
