Position Description Area Lead Surveyor Concentrator MLP - INCO

Role Overview

  • Provide support as required to the construction team reporting directly to the Project Lead Surveyor.

  • Activities relating to construction engineering, layout of foundation locations, equipment locations, structural steel placement, subcontracts, and engineering liaison with the design functional group.

  • Use design drawings, model and specifications to determine associated plant and equipment locations.

  • Works with field engineering to support field verification of materials as appropriate and needed.

  • Provides technical support as related to survey to Field Engineering and Superintendents in a wide range of situation and configurations.

  • Multi-Disciplined Field Engineering responsibilities with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, piping installation, etc., and module assembly experience.

  • Works under time constraints and must be adaptable to changing conditions and priorities and may be required to work extended work schedules or night shift and be willing to travel.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

  • The Area Lead Surveyor’s duties include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Support the survey team's implementation of the project safety, quality and environmental programs

  • Provide support to Construction and Project Management

  • Establish and/or verify and maintain Dimensional Control (DC) as required

  • Work without direct day-to-day supervision and make technical and supervisory decisions including planning daily activities

  • Perform duties of a Survey Party Chief on a 2 or 3 person direct-hire survey crew if required

  • Responsible for the accurate recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods

  • Supervise daily data downloading and processing

  • Perform Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments

  • Support the administration of the survey work request program

  • Support the project’s UAV/Drone program, including piloting missions

  • Perform and/or check survey computations as required in the performance of duties

  • Participate in survey department and field crew training

  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and be on feet for long periods of time

Basic Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Civil Engineering or Land Survey accredited program with 6 years of related experience, or 12 years related experience in lieu of degree

  • Self-starter, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work well in a team environment, on multiple work fronts, with good communication skills.

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience

  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accidents safety program

  • Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards

  • Knowledge of construction survey principles

  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities

  • Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures

  • Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with other departments and contractors

  • Prior experience supervising direct hire teams

  • Demonstrated proficiency with 3D Survey CAD software, including the ability to perform or check digital computations for generation of survey layout data and drafting of as staked/as-built data

  • Knowledge of Network Least Squares Adjustment software

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Robotic Total Stations and Digital Levels

  • Demonstrated proficiency with GPS/GNSS (Static & RTK) work process

  • Demonstrated proficiency with modern survey techniques and technology

  • Must be licensed by the DGA (Dirección General de Aeronáutica) as RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System), pilot and have demonstrated experience as a UAV/Drone pilot

  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards and best practices

  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications

  • Excellent problem-solving ability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the use of subcontracts

  • Knowledge of the contractor/ subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents

  • General awareness of environmental laws

  • Awareness of government compliance standards

  • Bilingual - Spanish/English
