Amergis Pharmacy Technician - Correctional Setting in Los Angeles, California
$25-29/hr
The Retail Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Retail Pharmacy Technician is responsible for maintaining a professional attitude that ensures efficient, accurate, and timely distribution of medications processed through the retail pharmacy. The Retail Pharmacy Technician will maintain the drug inventory, process patient prescriptions, process insurance claims, and maintain patient records. Responsibilities also includes assisting pharmacy customers both in person and via in bound phone calls.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares, packages, and distributes medications prescribed by physicians
Processes insurance claims
Maintains department facilities, equipment, and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff
Checks equipment, supplies, inventory and accessories on a regular basis per department protocol
Processes prescriptions, evaluates for quality and accurate patient identification and side labeling
Greets patients, verifies patient identification and physician orders
Addresses customer’s questions and concerns and appropriately refers to the pharmacist
Assists customers in person and over the phone
After pharmacist reviews the order for errors or potential problems, assists with transcribing the relevant information about the patient and the prescribed medications into the patient’s chart
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
Assists in keeping pharmacy clean and organized
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or its equivalent certification
Graduate of accredited Pharmacy Technology Program
PTCB or NPTA license preferred or as required by state/contract
Minimum of one year relevant experience preferred
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
