Our Properties

NeueHouse currently operates across three different, but equally iconic properties in New York City and Los Angeles:

  • Our Madison Square (MSQ) House is situated in New York’s iconic Flatiron District, was previously home for Tepper Galleries, a well-known Manhattan auction house for international artists and collectors in the 1930s – and neighbors the 69th Regiment Armory where the first International Exhibition of Modern Art was held.

  • Our Hollywood House (HWD), which sits on Sunset Boulevard, is one of LA’s most celebrated buildings and occupies the original CBS Studio (the world’s first structure built intentionally for broadcast). Here genre- defining artists from Orson Wells and Lucille Ball, to Janis Joplin, the Beach Boys, and Bob Dylan built their legacy.

  • Our Venice Beach House (VB) was once the creative home to some of the most influential creative luminaries in art and entertainment including Hal Ashby, Oliver Stone, and David Hockney, NeueHouse Venice Beach is a new work, social, and cultural hub for the Venice creative community.

The Role

As a House Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the operations at the House. This role requires both a strategic and tactical mindset, strong financial acumen, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both the General Manager of the properties and the Group Finance/Accounting department. This role will focus on analyzing costs, optimizing expenses, and maximizing profitability across various revenue streams. You will play a critical role in ensuring the financial health and success of the House, providing valuable real-time insights and recommendations to drive profitability and efficiency. You will develop cost-effective strategies and ensure long term financial sustainability. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to build strong partnerships cross-functionally.

Requirements

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Collaborate with House leadership, and Group FP&A to develop and implement financial plans, budgets, and forecasts for the property in alignment with Group standards and the overall business objectives.

  • Conduct ongoing financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.

  • Prepare regular financial reports and presentations as per Group standards for the general manager and Group finance department.

Financial Operations Management:

  • Oversee and manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow management as per Group standards.

  • Ensure compliance with Group standards, internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor and optimize revenue and expense performance, identifying cost-saving initiatives and revenue enhancement opportunities.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Review GL activity reports and profit & loss statements for accuracy and compliance with US GAAP.

  • Review AP bills to ensure proper coding.

  • Maintain proper internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks.

Strategic Planning and Decision Support:

  • Support the General Manager and Group finance department to develop strategic initiatives and business plans that tie into the overall business objectives.

  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making processes, including House capital investments, pricing strategies, and revenue management.

Cost Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze operating costs associated with food and beverage, events, membership services, and partnerships to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost optimization.

  • Work with Group Finance to prepare regular cost reports, budget vs. actual analyses, and profitability analyses for management review as per Group standards.

  • Provide insights and recommendations to enhance cost efficiency and improve overall financial performance.

Inventory Management:

  • Oversee, and partner with department leaders, on inventory management processes, including monitoring stock levels, conducting regular inventory counts, and reconciling discrepancies.

  • Evaluate and Implement inventory control measures to minimize waste, spoilage, and shrinkage.

  • Collaborate with the House leadership team to optimize purchasing strategies and negotiate favorable terms with suppliers.

Menu Engineering and Pricing Analysis:

  • Collaborate with the culinary and operations teams to analyze menu profitability and pricing strategies.

  • Evaluate the cost and profitability of menu items, recommending adjustments as needed to maximize revenue and profitability.

  • Monitor menu performance and guest preferences to identify opportunities for menu innovation and revenue growth.

Event Costing and Pricing:

  • Work closely with the event production and sales teams to develop and establish cost estimates for events and activations.

  • Analyze event costs, including food, beverage, staffing, and rental expenses etc., to ensure expected profitability is attained.

  • Assist in pricing strategies for events to maximize revenue and achieve targeted profit margins.

Membership Revenue Analysis:

  • Audit, analyze, and reconcile membership revenue streams, including fees and additional services, to assess accuracy profitability and retention rates.

  • Develop and maintain membership financial models to forecast revenue, track performance, and identify growth opportunities.

  • Collaborate with membership sales and marketing teams to optimize membership offerings and drive revenue growth.

We are looking to connect with candidates who bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification a plus.

  • 7+ years of experience in financial management within the hospitality industry.

  • Strong knowledge of financial principles, practices, and regulations.

  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.

  • Knowledge of inventory management principles and best practices.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • Ability to work independently and problem solve, but also know when to request help or guidance.

  • Strong Excel skills.

  • Fully conversant with Sage ERP system

  • Fully conversant with USALI

  • Full conversant, amongst others with USGAAP
