The USC Viterbi School of Engineering (https://viterbischool.usc.edu/)seeks a career services professional to serve as an Assistant Director within Viterbi Career Connections (VCC). The Assistant Director will provide various career services and programs for undergraduate and graduate engineering students.

VCC is a full-service career center that hosts various annual flagship career events, including two Engineering Career and internship Expos each year, several networking activities, and career readiness workshops. The team also manages daily on-campus recruiting activities, such as company information sessions and on-campus interviews; provides career advisement to students and administers internship course opportunities.

The Viterbi Career Connections area is part of Viterbi Admission and Student Engagement (VASE). The Assistant Director will report directly to the Senior Director of Viterbi Career Connections.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Student Career Readiness, Advisement, Event Management, and Internship Courses:

  • Management of the undergraduate and graduate engineering internship courses for credit. Internship course management includes advising students participating in or considering course registration; confirming participant eligibility; utilizing the course learning management system to maintain student records and manage the application and grading processes; and working with faculty to ensure assignments are reviewed and students receive appropriate credit.

  • Responsibilities also include providing frequent status reports to the Senior Director of Career Connections and Associate Dean and other responsibilities as needed to develop and maintain the internship courses for credit.

  • Manage the company site visit program, ViterbiTrek, which includes recruiting employers, selecting students, and overall program coordination and logistics.

  • Advise engineering students individually and in groups to provide career advice and counseling knowledgeable about career options, and understanding the current employment trends and climate.

  • Participate in the planning and execution of VCC events, taking a key role in these when needed or requested. Current VCC events include the Career & Internship Expo, Career Readiness, Networking, and Interview preparedness events.

  • Prepare, update, and present workshops to engineering students, collaborating as needed with the VCC staff. This may also include special request presentations.

  • Conduct program and event assessments, quantitative and qualitative, for continuous improvement.

  • Provide regular summary reports, ad-hoc reports, and the annual End of Year report for the Senior Director and Associate Dean.

  • Manage student appointments, events, reporting, and other requests as needed; currently utilizing Viterbi Career Gateway (Symplicity)

  • Utilize Customer Relationship Management(CRM)systems, project management and software tools.

  • Collaborate with internal and external USC VASE partners.

  • Assist in developing VCC promotional materials, which include the VCC website, newsletters, social media presence, and VCC event collateral.

  • Engage with career services professional associations like the National Association of Colleges and Employers and the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers and the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers.

Job duties may be added or modified as needed, to support the needs of stakeholders and goals of Viterbi Career Connections.

Additional Information:

This is currently a fixed hybrid position. The Assistant Director will be expected to work onsite for a minimum (3) days per week. This position is not eligible for fully remote work.

The annual base salary range for this position is $73,393.16 - $84,889.22. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope of responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in student affairs , counseling, or related area, or experience in university recruiting, career counseling/advising, or Human Resources area.

  • Knowledge or experience with USC programs and services.

  • Proven skill in developing and maintaining accurate, organized records, files, and filing systems.

  • Demonstrated practical problem-solving and organizational skills and the ability to identify, research, and analyze complex situations, recommend solutions, and determine action plans.

  • Knowledge of professional ethics and standards, as noted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

  • Experience with many of the listed software tools: Symplicity, WordPress, PeopleGrove, PowToons, Qualtrics, 12Twenty, ASANA, Tableau, VMock, SkillSurvey, and others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s

  • Minimum of one year of experience in higher education, a career services organization, or Human Resources.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends.

  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing priorities and fluctuating workloads.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully follow multiple tasks through to completion.

  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to independently compose letters, and emails, and ability to proofread and edit VCC communication.

  • Excellent verbal communication, including over the phone and public speaking.

  • Strong understanding of career development and support needs for diverse student populations, including needs for underrepresented populations, mature learners, and people with health conditions or impairments.

  • Multicultural competencies and the ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating sensitivity, tact, patience, and diplomacy at all levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment that requires some job sharing.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment with understanding and sensitivity to identify decisions and activities that require higher-level consultation or group collaboration.

  • Experience in working with MSOffice and database programs.
