    Position description

The School of Nursing at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) seeks applicants for a full-time Adjunct Faculty position for serving as Assistant Program Director in collaboration with the Program Director for the prelicensure and Master’s Entry Clinical Nurse programs as well as primarily teaching in the BS and MECN programs and. Qualified applicants have a Doctorate (PhD or DNP) in nursing or near the completion of a doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited program; have experience of teaching in higher education with current clinical expertise; and show evidence or potential of scholarly work and professional service.

Applicants must meet the academic and scholarly credentials for the Adjunct faculty series. Rank and salary will be commensurate with background and experience.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Appointed by the Dean, the Assistant Program Director works in collaboration with the BS and MECN Program Director and Associate Deans for Academic and Student Affairs, the Curriculum and Student Affairs Committees, program faculty, and staff to ensure the highest level of quality for the academic programs. In this capacity, the Assistant Program Director organizes and leads program implementation by 1) ensuring fidelity to the approved curriculum; 2) assessing and monitoring teaching effectiveness within each program; 3) maintaining positive communication among all program stakeholders (faculty, clinical affiliates, students); and 4) monitoring program effectiveness regularly. In fulfilling these duties, the Program Directors shall identify and apply leadership, organization, and management principles that are core to the School of Nursing and UCLA.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Program Director collaborates with the Program Director to

• Provide oversight of overall day-to-day program operations – teaching and learning and administrative activity.

• Manage and evaluate the delivery of educational services with the program.

• Collaborate with the Associate Dean, communicates with faculty committees (Student Affairs Committee and Curriculum Committee) to ensure quality of the program.

• Collaborate with the Curriculum Committee, faculty, and staff to ensure consistency with approved course descriptions, standards and requirements of accrediting bodies and communicates any concerns to the Program Director and Associate Dean

• Initiate and facilitate clinical partnerships with appropriate public and private entities to support faculty and student clinical teaching and learning.

• Evaluate accreditation reports and create action plans as needed, in conjunction with the Curriculum Committee and the Associate Dean

• Establish and maintain effective, consistent communication with faculty, staff, and students about general aspects of the program administration.

• Schedules routine meetings to discuss implementation of programs and other resource needs.

• Consults with the Program Director, Associate Deans about teaching needs and participates in hiring of new faculty.

• Schedule annual teaching assignments

• Evaluate faculty clinical teaching including peer-teaching evaluations and

quarterly course evaluations.

• Collaborate with Student Affairs staff to address any administrative issues involving the delivery of the curriculum.

• Provide professional service to the School, University, and the nursing profession.

• Pursue scholarly work to enhance evidence-based teaching methods and pedagogy.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Doctorate (PhD or DNP) in nursing from an accredited program and Current licensure in California as Registered Nurses

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

• Clinical experience and expertise.

• Teaching experience in both didactic and clinical settings in academic institution.

• Having knowledge about 2021 new essentials and competency-based education for professional nursing education.

• Excellent oral and written communication; interpersonal and networking skills

• Demonstration of leadership experience to negotiate, creatively problem solve and professionally interact in both academic and clinical settings.

• Evidence of innovation and creativity in curricular design and content implementation including classroom teaching and online presentation of content.

• Evidence of professional services and scholarship or potential scholarly work.
