Los Alamos National Laboratory Software Developer 1 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

As part of the Associate Lab Directorate of Weapons Production (ALDWP), the work we do in Production Support Services (PSS) directly affects mission success across Los Alamos National Laboratory.

PSS-1 is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Software Developer. The Business Solutions team consists of Technical Project Managers, Solution Architects, Software Developers and Server Administrators and are responsible for the development and maintenance of Weapons Production and Plutonium Infrastructure classified and unclassified websites as well as development and continuous maintenance of 150+ classified and unclassified SharePoint web applications. As a Software Developer, you will work on a Scrum development team using agile development methodologies and support various databases and applications to include customized development and upkeep (e.g. system access/permissions, bug fixes, workflow creation/maintenance, etc.) across the organization. This work will be performed in a fast-paced environment with the potential for growth in the areas of providing tailored solutions in direct support of specific programmatic needs and mission milestones. Working on a team, the successful candidate will perform the role of a UI designer with the potential need to perform the full spectrum of database, application, and website development, including but not limited to the following:

Software Developer 1 ($67,800 - $107,700)

Work as a member on a Scrum Agile Software Development Team to help design and develop website applications based on business requirements.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of web development technologies (REST, JSON, AJAX, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, XML), Programming languages such as C# and experience developing in the .NET framework environment with a familiarity using Entity Framework and LINQ.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and write SQL queries.

  • Demonstrated experience with working and utilizing relational databases.

  • Ability to innovate and develop solutions to complex user interaction problems.

  • Manage design libraries and product branding requirements.

  • Develop standard UI components and style guides.

Customer Support

  • Experience providing customer support including collecting project requirements, configuring, administering, and debugging technical issues.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with peers and all levels of external and internal personnel, technical and non-technical.

Communication

  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills to handle communication with technical and non-technical peers, customers, and stakeholders.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Strong presentation skills.

Clearance

Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship.

Education/Experience :

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working on a Scrum development team using Agile (Scrum) methodologies.

  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).

  • Experience developing and providing software user training to end users.

  • Experience utilizing tools such as Jira or DevOPS.

  • Experience with creating, updating, and executing unit testing.

  • Active DOE "Q" clearance.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico (TA-35). Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
