Job Information
Los Alamos National Laboratory Postdoctoral Research Associate in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our multidisciplinary team to conduct research in acoustic investigation of complex structures. The aim of the project is to study the behavior of acoustic waves in complex media with localized and extended non-uniformities and defects. The current areas of interest for the project are modeling and simulation studies of acoustic wave propagation in such media, experimental validation of such simulation results, and development of prototypes and/or deployable systems for diagnostics and monitoring. Specific target applications include non-invasive acoustic measurement of physical properties of fluids inside vessels, the use of nonlinear concepts and/or metamaterials for improved acoustic detection in structures with material and/or geometric complexity, and enhanced localization and classification of defects in extended structures using sensor arrays and machine learning algorithms. The successful candidate will work closely with other experimental and theoretical/computational scientists and engineers at Los Alamos and other academic institutions, as well as on joint projects with industry. There will be ample opportunities to work in a wide range of areas and to innovate.
The term of the appointment is two years, with the option to extend to a third year depending on performance and funding availability.
