Los Alamos National Laboratory Digital Collections Team Leader (Technical Project Manager 3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Join our team at Los Alamos National Laboratory! The Weapons Research Services (WRS) Division's National Security Research Center (NSRC) is Los Alamos National Laboratory's classified library. The NSRC's lineage dates back to 1943 when it was formed as part of the Manhattan Project and houses 75+ years of scientific and engineering research, designs, procedures, and other reports. This valuable one of kind information can be found in various media types such a video, audio, motion picture, microfilm, microfiche, photo, and paper and needs to be preserved via digitization.

Now is your chance to make a difference in supporting our national security mission. The NSRC Digital Collections (DC) Group is responsible for preserving weapons programs knowledge via digitization of various media types. These digitized records are made available to Lab researchers in the NSRC Online Vault and other repositories. The NSRC DC Group is seeking an exceptional Technical Project Manager (TMP) to join our team to oversee the digitization of classified and unclassified media.

The successful TPM will work with internal and external stakeholders to improve:

  • Digitization processes and workflows.

  • Manage technical and non-technical projects.

  • Lead new initiatives to incorporate new technologies.

  • Assign and track day-to-day activities for the team.

  • Organize and lead the team to analyze the current processes and develop recommendations on how to improve those processes.

  • Provide leadership and tactical planning for execution of projects.

  • Develop workflow-level as well as management-level metrics.

  • Work with various organizations and managers and play a vital role in the implementation of group initiatives by tracking programmatic tasks.

  • Provide reports on deliverables and milestone statuses for projects and process improvement events.

This challenging and exciting position requires a motivated and professional individual who is capable of quickly changing focus, acting independently, and is comfortable with a broadly defined scope of work. This includes working with various weapons program customers to ensure priorities and requirements are being met. This position will include working as the on-site team leader and will be administering work to the team and working in a semi-autonomous manner.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Technical Knowledge:

Demonstrated experience setting and achieving goals to meet strategic directions, designing evaluation tools, and implementing process improvements to support group initiatives. Advanced experience with business processes such as budgeting, planning, scheduling, marketing, data collection, and analysis. Knowledge and experience in developing or using program evaluation tools to track risks and mitigation strategies, monitor progress, and appropriately respond to areas or individuals in need of support. You should have a wide range of experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Frequently contributes to the development of new theories and methods. Considered expert in field within the organization.

Project Management:

Strong ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor project team efforts to completion. Experienced handling sensitive situations, using sound and independent judgment. Skilled in managing the execution of project plans under strict deadlines with changing priorities and excellent attention to detail and organization skills. Experience supervising and evaluating work, both directly and through subordinates, while managing multiple tasks with often competing deadlines. Able to develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

Customer Relations:

Experience in customer-focused communication and relations. Skilled in handling sensitive situations, using sound and independent judgment. Support customer requests, priorities and deadlines.

Communication:

Experience creating clear, concise, and informative reports, presentations, correspondence, and other written materials. Excellent customer-focused communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Ability to serve as the primary interface between the project teams and line management, ensuring effective and professional interactions. Skilled in networking with key contacts outside own area of expertise. Responsible for making contacts across internal organizations and occasionally external to the organization.

Responsibility and Accountability:

Ability to exert significant latitude in determining objectives of assignment, and determine the methods and procedures needed for new assignments.

Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position. A Project Management Institute certification is desired for this level.

Desired Qualifications:

Project Management Methodologies, Principals, and Frameworks:

A Lean Six Sigma Certification would be highly beneficial. Experience with scheduling tools such as P6 and/or MS Project, cost estimating tools, and report development using Pivot Tables. Familiarity with Agile frameworks, tools, and techniques (Scrum, Kanban, CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins). Scrum Master and/or Product Owner certification a plus.

Project Management Software Systems:

Knowledge in one of more of the following areas: Product Data Management (PDM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Data Management (MPM), Configuration Management, Content Management, and/or Requirements Management.

Strategic Collaboration:

Exceptional customer service skills and experience managing customer interactions effectively.

LANL Operations:

Understanding of the Nuclear Security Enterprise's (NSE) Design Agency (DA) and Production Agency (PA) roles, relationships, and system integrations.

Education and Certifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a science, engineering or related field, from an accredited institution. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.

Clearance:

Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which typically requires US citizenship.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
