Lower Columbia College Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist 1 (Head Start, Part-time) in Longview, Washington

The Grounds & Nursery Services Specialist reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.   This is a 12 month position working no more than 19 hours per week, 75 hours maximum per month. Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Seeds, mows, irrigates, sweeps, fertilizes, top dresses, edges and maintains lawns 
  • Plants, transplants, trims, and waters plants, trees, flowers, lawns and shrubs
  • Uses a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, hand edger's, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows, weeding forks, hoes, pruning shears and pesticide sprayers
  • Review and prioritize grounds and nursery services related work orders from Administrative Services Manager and/or Campus Services
  • Perform work according to standard procedures and building's operational schedule
  • Visit Head Start/ECEA program sites monthly to determine preventative grounds and nursery services needs
  • Drive program vehicles to/from sites, to pick up needed materials, and to complete work order requests
  • Perform related duties as required

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Experience in maintenance / custodial field
  • Ability to perform tasks around children ages 3-5, while ensuring safety and appropriate interactions/boundaries

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience or training involving grounds maintenance, gardening, plant care, cultivation, and landscape installation
