Job Title: Meter/Inspection Technician
Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and professional Inspection Technicians to perform periodic facility inspections and surveys on utility-owned gas meters. This position requires candidates to enter customers' homes, communicate effectively, and demonstrate mechanical abilities. Reliability and professionalism are key qualities for this role.
Responsibilities
Perform periodic facility inspections and surveys on utility-owned gas meters
Complete all necessary documentation
Ensure readings and records are in compliance with all company and regulatory requirements
Support the successful completion of regulatory audits and inspections
Conduct integrity surveys, including direct assessments and close interval surveys
Perform audit reviews with operations and support them during audits
Essential Skills
Possess a valid driver's license and personal vehicle
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High school diploma or equivalent
Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and initiative skills
Ability to work both in a team setting and independently with minimal supervision
Intermediate knowledge of mathematics, algebra, and mechanical aptitude
Ability to walk, climb stairs, and ladders during an 8-hour workday in all weather conditions
Additional Skills & Qualifications
1+ year of professional experience with a consistent job history
1+ year of driving experience
Experience in customer service-oriented roles
Mechanical aptitude(e.g., Cable Techs, HVAC, Piping, Auto Mechanic)
Ability to interface with technical services, government agencies, emergency planning committees, emergency responders, landowners, contractors

Work Environment
This is a 100% field-based position within the NGRID service territory, primarily in Brooklyn and Queens. Candidates must be flexible to travel within the utility territory. Training includes OSHA orientation, classroom sessions, homework, and practice exams, with a probationary period of 90 days. Operations hours are Monday to Friday, 8am - 4pm, with potential Saturday shifts at the supervisor's request. Technicians will use their own vehicles and receive equipment such as a simple tool set, flashlight, gas detector, field binder, ID badges, handheld tablet, FR shirts, pants, safety vest, and hard hat.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00
