Google Software Engineer, WearOS Telemetry in London, United Kingdom

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.

  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an

academic or industry setting.

  • Experience with Android development and operating systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • Experience developing accessible technologies.

The WearOS Releases, Telemetry and Analytics team aims to accelerate improvements to WearOS by enabling data-informed product decisions and providing a quality-oriented, data-driven release platform. The WearOS Telemetry team focuses on building data pipelines and infrastructure for wearable devices (e.g., platforms) software and apps. This includes infrastructure and tooling built for monitoring and validation of feature success, system health, power, performance and business metrics reporting and processing. We also uphold privacy standards and advocate for those within the wider team including adherence to data sharing regulations.

  • Work on full-stack development of WearOS to monitor and optimize the power usage of the platform using a data-driven approach. Build and enhance data pipelines and tooling that are used in the detection and fixing of system health, power and performance issues.

  • Optimize WearOS platform framework, Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and Board Support Package (BSP) layers. Enhance architecture of the operating system for power and performance.

  • Design and implement data collection pipelines and infrastructure specific to wearable devices by modifying Android-based WearOS platform and apps code.

  • Improve the quality, functionality, and security of the device by creating tools and processes that help with detection and efficient fixing of bugs found during field use.

  • Utilize and enhance Google standard tooling that enables data collection from Android-based devices.
