Our industry is rapidly evolving, and we need courageous, quick thinkers who can shape the pricing strategies that drive our business forward. Whether it’s negotiating with some of our largest global partners or creating specific country or industry pricing solutions, you can influence the single largest source of American Express’ revenue: Merchant Discount Revenue.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Manager of Regional Merchant Pricing Strategy will support key initiatives that will drive the pricing team’s strategies to help meet enterprise goals. The ability to understand and synthesise complex external and internal factors and to formulate strategic recommendations for senior leadership is key to the success of these initiatives. The selected candidate will report to the Director of Regional Pricing and will have considerable exposure to senior leaders in GMNS and across the Blue Box.

  • Lead analytical workstreams to uncover data-driven insights that inform optimal Merchant pricing strategies.

  • Work with internal collaborators, both within Pricing and throughout the GMNS organisation, to find Merchant pricing solutions that support enterprise goals.

  • Challenge existing strategies and pricing frameworks with provocative, evidence-based, proposals.

  • Conceptual thinking skills and ability to identify and implement technical solutions to achieve process automation and improve the final outcomes of the projects

  • Formulate strategic recommendations based on key findings, communicating takeaways to senior leadership through written and verbal updates.

  • Develop quantitative analysis and robust financial models to evaluate pricing options, assess financial impact and value delivered.

  • Leverage internal and external data from merchant-specific insights, the latest competitive intelligence, industry research and regulatory developments to inform pricing strategies and maintain pricing integrity.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in Management Consulting/ Corporate Strategy.

  • Experience in and/or significant exposure to the payments industry with a solid understanding of business model drivers.

  • Strong skills for analytics; proven ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw valuable insights from large amounts of data.

  • Positive relationship management and collaboration skills with the ability to influence others in situations where there may be different goals

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral, with experience leading discussions with Senior Leaders where decisions need to be made based on the facts presented

  • Proven strategic thought leadership and comfort working with unstructured problems

  • Results driven with the ability to work under pressure, navigate through ambiguity, draw linkages, and balance multiple priorities.

  • Creative problem solver who challenges the status quo and adopts new thinking

  • Strong project management skills with full ownership from analysis through to implementation

  • Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint to an advanced level, SAS / SQL skills desirable
