As a result of significant growth and increasing opportunities we are currently looking to strengthen our leadership team in our Asbestos & Hazardous Materials Risk Management Team. This is a critical role, reporting to the sub-team director, and will be heavily operations and commercial focused. Our Asbestos & Hazardous Materials Risk Management team, of approximately 25 people, is one of five specialist sub-teams which make up our UK leading Health and Safety Consultancy team of approximately 100 people.

Our asbestos and hazardous materials consultancy team are based throughout the UK and provide advice to some of the largest property and infrastructure owners in the country. We undertake significant work in the commercial property, rail and aviation sectors, and work alongside our colleagues from other disciplines on some the most exciting development projects that are shaping the environment we live and work in.

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of our Asbestos & Hazardous Materials Risk Management Team

  • Drive improvements in the delivery of service with a focus on efficiencies and technical development

  • Support the regional managers in the development of their teams/regions

  • Contribute and help shape the strategic direction of the Asbestos & Hazardous Materials Risk Management Team

  • Assisting our technical and quality team in managing our processes to deliver works in accordance with our UKAS accreditation to ISO 17020 and 17025 for asbestos inspection and testing.

  • Deliver and lead individual complex site and office-based projects in the most efficient manner to the benefit of the client and WSP, including effective consultancy, exceptional client care and reporting to pre-agreed deadlines. Typically, projects will include providing technical advice on asbestos compliance and legislation, portfolio level risk reviews, training, managing asbestos surveys, air monitoring and removal verification.

  • Identifying and communicating potential new business opportunities from both external and existing clients. Producing accurate proposals for asbestos consultancy works.

  • Support strategic bids and opportunities

  • Deputise for the sub-team director in times of absence/need

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

The role will be varied, challenging and require excellent operational management and organisational skills. Experience of working in the asbestos industry and managing teams is essential. The role will involve working with our internal teams, clients, internal shared services and senior directors across the business, therefore good effective communication skills, at all levels will be essential. A knowledge of the asbestos market, commercial drivers, pricing, and services aligned to asbestos (such as legionella, industrial hygiene, traditional H&S) would be advantageous.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • Knowledge of organisational effectiveness and operations management in asbestos consultancy

  • Experience of managing, motivating and leading multi-regional technical teams

  • Previous experience of complex asbestos project management and related activities undertaken with other UKAS accredited organisations.

  • BOHS P402-405 Proficiency Modules (or RSPH equivalent) or the BOHS Certificate of Competence in Asbestos

  • Excellent knowledge of the current Control of Asbestos Regulations, ACoP and associated guidance
