Transdev Fleet Engineer in Lombard, Illinois

Position Summary:

To provide technical expertise and direction for technical support throughout the entire Maintenance organization

Essential Job Functions:

  • Communicates with OEM’s, component manufacturers to develop procedures for service bulletins, recalls, and retrofits. To develop procedures for the location level.

  • Works with Corporate procurement to ensure quality and testing of parts.

  • Monitors and records completion of all service bulletins, recalls, and retrofits.

  • Reviews and develops Vehicle specifications for client support and bidding purposes.

  • Performs component assessments to determine failure analysis and trends.

  • Responds to Thermal incident investigations to perform complete forensic analysis. Develops new procedures to mitigate future occurrences.

  • Works with corporate trainer to develop new procedures and training programs regarding emerging technologies such as Zero emission fleets.

  • Works with locations to develop infrastructure and tooling plans for emerging technologies.

  • Reviews and develops Vehicle Preventative Maintenance programs and forms for compliance to OEM, client, and corporate requirements.

  • Works with locations to assist in diagnostics of complex vehicle issues.

  • Assists in identifying secondary resources for scarce materials and parts.

  • Reviews, develops and documents new and existing corporate SOP’s.

Purpose and Nature of Work Relationships:

Has moderate contact with others inside the organization; works mainly with Maintenance staff and occasionally with Training, Safety, Dispatch and Purchasing.

Has moderate contact with others outside the organization; works with OEMs and vendors occasionally.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Technical skills related to Transit, Motor Coach and Paratransit type buses.

  • Presentation skills that can engage the team in learning.

  • Ability to communicate with front line team members as well as corporate team members.

  • Ability to deliver exceptional service through positive engagement and patience.

  • Ability to work in a team environment to continuously improve results.

  • Ability to promote a culture of trust and safety.

  • ASE Master Certification H – series, T – series, and A- series

  • Five (5) years recent progressive heavy equipment maintenance experience required.

  • Two (2) years technical degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Additional training from mechanical/technical schools, courses or seminars is desirable.

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Must have a complete understanding of the design, vehicle electronics, overhaul knowledge for transmissions and heavy-duty engines, as well as other bus components.

  • Must be able to work with diagnostic equipment including OEM type computerized programs such as INSITE, WTEC, Wabco.

  • Must have good communication skills to be able to give directions.

  • Must have an in-depth understanding of regulations affecting mechanics and maintenance operations.

  • Must be autonomous and be self directed. Must be able to research and identify resources for complex issues. Must have basic math abilities to analyze and track maintenance information.

  • Must have knowledge of the warranty process.

  • Must prioritize and be detail oriented.

  • Must be able to perform physical activities including working on top of coaches and lifting to seventy-five (75) pounds.

  • Must have clean driving record and can obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with Passenger Endorsement

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination including a drug test.

Tools, Equipment and Vehicles Used:

Various hand tools, various specialized hand tools, various power tools, various pneumatic tools, diagnostic tools such as schematics, Prolink and computer, heavy machinery, and machinist (precision) tools and vehicle lift systems.

  • Approximately 80% of the work is performed outdoors.

  • Must be able to lift seventy-five (75) pounds.

  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, standing, bending, and handling materials.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to heat/cold conditions.
