Intermountain Health Registered Nurse New Graduate Emergency Department in Logan, Utah

Job Description:

The Nursing Graduate works under direct line-of-sight supervision of the Registered Nurse in the clinical setting and participates appropriately in the patient care delivery process. The incumbent also orients to the RN assignment, excluding independent nursing care. This position may participate in medication administration under the direction and supervision of the licensed RN.

Logan Regional Hospital is a 148-bed community hospital located in Northern Utah in the beautiful Cache Valley. Logan Regional is a Trauma III designated center and provides advanced technology and highly skilled care to the community. Key services include Cancer Care, Women & Newborn, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Cardiology, and Behavioral Health. Our Medical Group presence includes two clinics, one Instacare clinic, and the Budge Clinic, which shares our campus.

Our hospital serves a population of some 150,000 in Cache, Rich, Box Elder, and Franklin counties and western Wyoming. Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital is the official medical provider to Utah State University and several area high schools. With roots that can be traced back to 1914, Logan Regional Hospital and its predecessors have been serving Cache Valley and its surrounding communities for 100 years.

Shift Details: Full time, 36 hours/week, variable shifts

Primary Location: Logan Regional Hospital

Additional Details: Variable shifts. Will likely start on night shift after orientation. Shift movement is then based on availability and by seniority (movement into swings and days). Expect to work 6 weekend shifts in an eight week period. We have three holiday teams and rotate major holidays every third year. Orientation is about 3 months, full time.

Minimum Qualifications:

New Grad RN - Unlicensed

Entry Pay: $30.87

  • Successful completion of a recognized and accredited Nursing/RN education program (education will be verified).

Registered Nurse - Licensed

Entry Pay: $34.19

  • Current RN License in state of practice.

Licensed and Unlicensed RN

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for healthcare providers.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

The New Grad RN position is for those who have graduated nursing school and not yet taken their NCLEX or RN’s with less than one year of RN experience. Those hired as a New Grad RN are required for have transcripts showing graduation from nursing school and will work under a licensed RN until they pass boards and their RN license can be verified. In conjunction with working on this unit, New Grad RNs attend Intermountain’s one-year nurse residency program. The nurse residency program supports New Grad RNs in their transition from classroom to caregiver through 72 paid clinical hours, webinars, simulations, case studies, and quarterly in person meetings. Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • and -

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
