BEAR RIVER HEAD START Early Head Start Infant Intern in LOGAN, Utah
This EHS Intern position is part time, 20 hours per week. Rate of pay is $14.52 hourly. Eligible for retirement benefits after 13 months of employment.
KEY FUNCTION: Under the direction of the EHS Coordinator, direct supervision may be assigned according to program needs. The EHS Volunteer/Intern will assist with group socializations or in the center based program. Each Volunteer/Intern must be able to work in a cooperative manner with staff and families. Orientation Procedure below will be followed and expectations must be understood.
ORIENTATION PROCEDURE: Set up and come to an orientation appointment with the manager. Receive volunteer packet, emergency procedures and the availability graph. Obtain fingerprint background checks, as instructed. Set up an orientation with the HS Community Representative if working over 10 hours. Fill out volunteer packet and availability graph and return to supervisor. Receive brief history of EHS at orientation appointment with the supervisor and watch EHS introduction video. Give documentation of TB test (if you will have contact with children). Give documentation of Food Handler's permit to be able to help with food preparation. Give three references so they can be contacted. Participate in training with the Child Development manager for the area you will be assigned to work in -- confidentiality to be reinforced. Complete in-kind forms (sign in/out) for time served. Complete state licensing, required background check and orientation training.
EXPECTATIONS: Volunteers are expected to work while they are here and assist in all group activities. Ask staff to give you instructions and follow them. Become Familiar with Bear River Head Start health and safety procedures and follow them. Be an active part of the crew. The children, parents and staff count on you. Use family style serving at meals. When meals are served, you are invited to eat with the group. No food is allowed to be taken out by staff or families. Aprons, hairnets, closed toe shoes, and gloves should be worn during all food preparation. Food cannot be allowed to be used as a reward or punishment. Stay in the building during your shift. Be dependable. Twenty-four (24) hour notice is required for a late or no show. Personal business to be done on your own time. Confidentiality -- Discuss EHS parents and children only with appropriate EHS staff on a need to know basis, not with other staff, parents or interns. Use respect when communicating with staff, children and parents. Use positive reinforcement when directing children. Give positive options of discipline to parents when appropriate. Avoid saying "No". Tell children what they can do instead of telling them what they cannot do. State and model expectations. State positive consequences when expectations are followed. Early Head Start is a safe environment for children. Hitting, yelling, negative comments and other forms of abuse are prohibited. Volunteers and Interns are not allowed to be alone with children. Only staff members are allowed to assist children in bathroom or with bathroom accidents. Only staff members are allowed to answer the telephones. Only staff members are allowed to complete group evaluations and food documentations. You are expected to help clean up and disinfect the toys with the staff after the group or class. Remember EHS is a mandatory reporting agency. Dress is casual, but you will need to be clean, neat, and modestly dressed. Follow center code of conduct, respect children with disabilities, encourage male involvement and have a positive attitude.
All employment with Bear River Head Start is contingent upon Policy Council approval, and successful results of a background check.
