Overview The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Utah State University invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track position in organic chemistry at the Assistant Professor level estimated to start in August of 2025. The successful applicant will develop an externally funded research program in organic chemistry; preference will be given to applicants with research interests that complement existing research in the department. Applicants must have earned a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related discipline; postdoctoral experience in experimental organic chemistry is preferred. The position requires the development of a nationally recognized, externally funded, research program and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching responsibilities will include organic courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Evaluation of applications will begin October 1, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in organic chemistry
  • Participate in departmental committees and activities
  • Mentor graduate students

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in chemistry or a closely related discipline
  • Research program in organic chemistry
  • Experience/training in the areas of organic chemistry
  • Ability to develop a nationally recognized, externally-funded research program involving postdocs and graduate and undergraduate students
  • Excellent track record of publishing in top scientific journals
  • Ability to teach effectively in undergraduate and graduate courses, including upper division organic chemistry courses
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral and/or faculty/industry experience

  • Research that is complementary to departmental research
  • Evidence of successful grantsmanship
