Verisk Senior Database Administrator in Littleton, Colorado

  • Provide assistance in database design and implementation. * Perform all aspects of database administration including planning, installation, upgrading, patching, tuning, support, backups and troubleshooting. * Work closely with application development teams and systems administration to test, troubleshoot, and optimize new and existing database-driven applications. * Actively participates in the daily operational activities that impact important components / processes of the of the IT work function * Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities. * Monitor production, test, and development database environments and actively pursue any issues limiting the performance, scalability and availability of these systems. * Take ownership of problems and manage incidents. * Support the deployment of Xactware suite of products. * Support enterprise security auditing and compliance related tasks. * Mentor other DBAs in industry best practices and latest trends. * Effectively and professionally interact with customers, clients and Xactware employees. * Carry a cell phone, be on-call and occasionally work odd hours to help meet customer service level agreements. * Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent experience. * 5+ years of database administrative experience working with various database management systems. * 3+ years of database experience working with various database management systems. * Experience in a heavily used, highly available, 24x7 enterprise platform. * Experience with cloud environments such as AWS (preferred), Azure, or GCP. * Knowledge of relational databases such Oracle, Postgres, MySQL or MS SQL * Knowledge of NOSQL database technologies such as MongoDB or Dynamo * Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database issues such as database integrity, performance, blocking and deadlocking, replication, log shipping, connectivity, security, etc. * Experience in backups, recovery models, online maintenance operations, and flashback technologies. * Experience in indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching. * Experience in configuring, implementing, and supporting high availability strategies with database systems including clustering and replication. * Database performance tuning, optimizations, and troubleshooting. * Extensive experience with database management tools and other elements of enterprise level database support. * Ability to work in a 24/7 high availability environment with strict SLAs. * Excellent written and verbal communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills. * Ability to install and configure database software unassisted. * Experience with partitioning, advanced queuing, distributed transactions, materialized views/snapshots, etc. * Experience with Linux and shell scripting is a plus. * Related industry certifications are a plus. * Experience with Kanban or Scrum. #LI-UI1 Verisk Analytics is an equal opportunity employer.
