We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal / Senior Principal Safety Systems Engineer based out of Baltimore, MD and will require 100% on-site work.
What You’ll get to Do:
Develop and implement a MIL STD 882 compliant system safety program
Conduct System Safety analysis to ensure risks are identified, communicated, tracked, and mitigated to a tolerable level
Document and present results of system safety analysis in formal contract deliverable reports
Communicate and present results of System Safety analysis with internal/external customers and at major milestone reviews
Provide technical leadership in the System Safety Engineering discipline and work to drive sound systems engineering on programs
This position is contingent upon contract award, successful transfer of an active DoD Secret Clearance and Special Program Access (SAP) prior to start.
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Safety Systems Engineer:
Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, master’s degree with 3 years of experience or a Ph.D. with 0 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics or other related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
U.S Citizenship is required.
A current/active DoD Secret Clearance is required with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) prior to start.
Fluency in System Safety Engineering practices in accordance with MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, ARP-4761/DO-178/254, or other relevant standards for complex systems development
Experience conducting system safety hazard analyses (i.e, PHA, SRHA, FHA, SHA, SSHA, O&SHA, FTA)
Experience implementing/developing Safety Analysis plans/reports (i.e, SSPP, SAR, HMMP)
Utilization of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS)
Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Safety Systems Engineer:
Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience, master’s degree with 6 years of experience or a Ph.D. with 3 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics or other related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
U.S Citizenship is required.
A current/active DoD Secret Clearance is required with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineer, or Mathematics or other related technical fields.
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance or higher.
Understanding of the intricate details and underlying principles of complex systems development
Experience with DoD System Safety programs throughout all phases of the systems engineering developmental lifecycle
Experience briefing System Safety analysis at design reviews (i.e., SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR)
RF and/or Laser Safety Analysis experience
Extensive experience with implementing SW Safety on complex systems
Experience with presenting at SSSTRP/WSERB Board reviews
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
Certified Safety Professional
Experience with Safety Management Systems

Salary Range: $93,000 - $139,600
Salary Range 2: $115,400 - $173,200
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
