Position Description The Anoka County Parks mission is to positively impact the quality of life in Anoka County by providing parks, outdoor recreation, and leisure services for the public. The department has an immediate opening for a Golf Course Assistant Superintendent who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include overseeing maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (e.g., fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure quality playing conditions. This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-siteposition. Interviews will take place the week of January 13th, 2025, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. Work Location This position will work at Chomonix Golf Course, located at 700 Aqua Ln, Lino Lakes, MN 55014 Expected work hours are Monday - Friday 5:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all-inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of the primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Golf Course Assistant Superintendent. Oversee maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (e.g., fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure quality playing conditions. Apply and implement scientifically valid practices relating to arboriculture, horticulture, pruning, tree removal, inventory, hazard tree analysis, reforestation, and wildlife habitat restoration. Provide direction to golf course staff to prioritize workloads, coach/mentor team members, and collaborate and coordinate with leaders and teams throughout the county. Direct and coordinate continued development of golf course during golf season to improve playing conditions and maintenance of course during off-season including tee service, changing of cups, pond care, sand trap maintenance and daily course inspections. Support purchasing, replenishment, and inventory of all materials, supplies, and equipment used to maintain golf course as requested. Record data for daily reports, chemical records, material needs, inventory, and assess and schedule the need for pruning and tree removal. Liaise with the Golf Course Superintendent on any issues related to golf course operations and maintenance. Provide support for all facets of golf course maintenance as needed. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 3 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-rel ted experience. In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. At least 1 year (2,080 annual hours) of supervisory experience. Possess or able to obtain Minnesota state license in noncommercial applicators with certifications in categories A (Core) and E (Turf and Ornamentals). Must have a valid driver's license. Successfully pass criminal history and driver's license background check. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in turf management related field. Technical knowledge and skills in construction, irrigation, landscape, and turf grass related to golf management. Knowledge of chemical and fertilizer use and applicable local, state, and federal laws. Experience with landscape management and golf course related equipment and tasks. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Indoor and outdoor county worksites in all weather conditions depending on assignment. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds. Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing. Physical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, prolonged walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment. Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties. Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills. Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs. Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to various park maintenance equipment depending on assignment. Park maintenance equipment may include but is not limited to hand and power tools, shovels, sledgehammer, post hole diggers, weed whips, ladders, wheelbarrows, various light and heavy equipment, chemicals, personal protective equipment, and weather appropriate gear. Driving is required for this position and staff must have the ability to use a variety of mowers, tractors, pickup trucks, UTV's, and boats Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, prolonged vibration from machinery, and other hazards is possible while performing essential duties. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
