Ingersoll Rand Desktop Support Specialist in Lincolnshire, Illinois

The Desktop Support Specialist will provide initial employee support for technical inquiries received via phone, email, and messaging applications. Assess the nature of problems and resolve basic support issues. Troubleshoot software and hardware issues on laptops, desktops, tablets, and/or smartphones. Log or record support tickets and/or cases.

Responsibilities:

  • Pay attention to customers’ descriptions of their computer problem.

  • Ask customers questions to properly diagnose the problem

  • Walk customers through the recommended problem-solving steps

  • Set up or repair computer equipment and related devices

  • Set up new users with proper equipment with requests from Human Resources and or/ hiring managers.

  • Train users to work with new computer hardware or software, such as printers, word-processing software, and email

  • Train peers in related processes or procedures

  • Respond to helpdesk requests using Jira platform

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • 3 years of relevant experience

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must be able to work on Government programs and access all areas of the facility (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S.)

  • Experience working with clients or customers

Core Competencies:

  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and other basic computer usage. Working proficiency with hand held computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad) and network bases.

Preferences:

  • Demonstrated listening skills; understanding the problems that customers are describing and know when to ask questions to clarify the situation

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrated communication skills to include speaking and writing

Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

This position will be based at our corporate offices in Durham and Lillington, NC.
