Position Description

The Tactical Defense Systems Group works to find the best ways to protect U.S. Air Force vehicles. We study vulnerability to radar and infrared sensors as well as novel sensing modalities. The group focuses on understanding threats through tests and measurements. Test activities include flight, field, and laboratory testing. The group operates two highly instrumented airplanes and numerous ground systems. We prototype advanced sensor concepts and add instrumentation to existing sensors. The group provides answers to survivability questions from our Air Force sponsors by conducting field measurements, analyzing data, and comparing the results to modeling and simulation. We recommend investments in future USAF systems and present our advice to high-level decision makers in the DoD.

What You Will Do

  • Assist with the development of testbeds to support laboratory and field testing with ground and airborne systems

  • Design, code, test, integrate, and maintain various radar and optical system testbeds

  • Operate one-of-a-kind sensor systems to collect detailed data for answering key questions related to air defense issues

  • Perform data analysis on collected data and generate presentations for senior leaders to advise acquisition decisions

How You Will Grow

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • M.S. or M.A. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field

  • In lieu of a Master’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of directly applicable experience will be considered

  • Experience with one or more of the following: real time software, system architecture design, integration of hardware and software, MATLAB, C++, CUDA, FPGA, digital design, digital signal processing, image processing, data analysis, artificial intelligence, machine learning

  • Effective oral and written communications skills

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Laboratory, field, and/or flight test experience
