The Position

Novo Nordisk is seeking a Lead Cloud and Data Engineer to join our Digital, Data and IT team within R&ED (Research & Early Development) in Boston. Our team supports the strategic digital transformation imperative within our R&ED organization, crucial for realizing our scientific strategy. As a Cloud and Data Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, operation, maintenance, and support of the data, middleware, and IT infrastructure used by R&ED units across Novo Nordisk, both on-premises and in the cloud.

Relationships

The role will report to the Head of IT in Lexington, MA and work closely with employees at Novo Nordisk R&D sites in the North American region (Including Boston area sites, Seattle, Fremont, and Boulder.), lab and scientific research groups, DDIT RED and broader DDIT organization globally (primarily in Denmark).

Essential Functions

  • Generate and mature relevant ideas, concepts, and products for patient value and Novo Nordisk's future

  • Lead engineering tasks and have hands-on work involving highly complex activities

  • Collaborate with scientists and analysts to translate LoB needs into innovative solutions

  • Provide guidance, design, develop, and maintain cloud-based and on-premise data platforms and infrastructure, ensuring regulatory compliance

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze data requirements, develop pipelines, and deploy scalable storage and processing solutions

  • Architect, implement, and oversee data models, ETL processes, and integrations for business intelligence and analytics

  • Contribute to optimizing data storage, retrieval, and processing, prioritizing data security and privacy

  • Monitor and resolve issues related to cloud and on-premise infrastructure to ensure high performance and reliability

    Physical Requirements

    The job is based onsite in Lexington, MA. This is not a 100% remote opportunity. Some travel to be expected.

    Qualifications

  • High School Diploma. With a HS diploma, minimum of 10+ years relevant experience required. A Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years and Master’s degree with 5+ years relevant experience can be considered

  • In addition, you are expected to have:

  • Proficiency in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with a strong understanding of cloud-based data services and tools

  • Strong experience with DevOps principles, including automation, infrastructure/configuration as code, CI/CD, and related practices

  • Experience with scientific software like R, Python, MATLAB, or Mathematica

  • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or Scala, with a focus on building scalable data pipelines and processing workflows

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, good at taking initiative, strong communication skills, and effective cross-functional teamwork

  • Experience with agile project work and direct end-user interaction is preferred

  • You are self-motivated and enjoy taking lead. You are curious, ambitious, and critical, and prioritization comes naturally. You can build trust and influence at different organizational levels. You flourish when immersed in an international atmosphere, thriving in such an environment
