Primary Responsibilities

HDR is seeking a Transportation Planner/Traffic Engineer to support our KY/TN/AR area transportation business group and actively promote technical excellence for our transportation planning and traffic engineering practice.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform complex planning and traffic engineering tasks, exercise sound engineering judgment, prepare traffic analysis reports, complete safety analysis and complete operations analysis and/or simulations.
  • Make decisions on design and engineering procedures as needed
  • Function as a technical specialist on projects, including transportation planning and traffic analysis
  • Mentor and lead young professionals and technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Prepare clear and accurate technical reports, presentations, and other documents from start to finish.
  • Successfully lead teams in the delivery of projects.
  • Successfully foster client relationships and support the pursuit of transportation planning and traffic project work.
  • Ability to understand & drive marketing/pursuit needs
  • Perform other duties as needed

This person will be a key resource for the pursuit and management of major transportation design, operations, planning and research projects. The ability to establish client relationships in the market is important. The person in this position leads and directs the work of others in the completion of required plans, studies, documents and reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Civil Engineering
  • 8 years of experience in transportation planning and traffic analysis
  • AICP or ability to obtain within 6 month
  • Experience with operational analysis (HCS, Synchro, Vistro, etc.) preferred
  • Experience with Highway/roadway safety analyses (including HSM, ISATe, IHSDM, etc.) preferred
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Planning or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years experience with transportation planning
  • MS Office, CAD, ArcInfo/ArcView
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
