How You’ll Make An Impact

The Senior Paralegal assists in supporting the efficient operations of the Law Department. Working under general supervision, the independently handles complex assignments with moderate risk, and is knowledgeable and capable of handling matters in discreet legal specialty (Employment, Litigation) with speed and accuracy. This role will communicate with outside counsel with specific requests or concerns and will present an in-depth knowledge of employment law and claims management.

Valvoline Global Operations Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. If local, we prefer candidates willing to work a hybrid in-office schedule (3 days per week). We are open to candidates working remotely but willing to visit HQs quarterly.

In The Role, You Would Be Responsible For:

  • Analyzes, manages, and tracks Worker’s Compensation claims, general liability, and auto liability claims with Valvoline Global’s third-party administrator. Follows claims handling procedures and participates in claim negotiations and settlements.

  • Support Senior Employment and Litigation Counsel and Legal team in handling employment and litigation needs for Valvoline Global, including but not limited to maintaining and updating case files, tracking and monitoring multiple cases, communicating with outside counsel and third parties regarding cases, compiling and managing litigation records and document production, initiating and updating internal legal holds, circulating internal legal reports, assisting in preparation for hearings, conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, monitoring case schedules and filing deadlines, drafting correspondence and pleadings, summarizing depositions, interrogatories, records, and testimony, providing training to paraprofessionals, and performing complex research and analysis.

  • Acts as a liaison between Valvoline Global, insurance broker/provider, third-party administrators, claimants, and/or policyholders regarding claims and/or disputes. Records and analyzes claims.

  • Serves as the liaison between the Legal team and Legal Tracker, including but not limited to initiating new matter billing information, reviewing and auditing pending invoices, tracking invoices and payment schedules, tracking court-ordered payments and settlement payments, and compiling e-billing reports and summaries using Legal Tracker software and applications.

  • Build and analyze claims reports for insurance renewals and actuarial analysis.

  • Manage and update the recordkeeping system for Valvoline Global’s Legal team.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus on law, paralegal studies, or a related field.

  • Candidates should be qualified in an American Bar Association or respective country-approved curriculum and, ideally, have a Certified Legal Assistant designation or have passed the Paralegal Advanced Competency Examination.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant paralegal work experience is required

  • Proven track record of working in positions where accuracy, structured and documented working, and prioritizing have been key.

  • Experience monitoring multiple case schedules and filing deadlines, drafting correspondence and pleadings

  • Strong knowledge of employment law and litigation

  • Excellent communication, both written and oral, drafting and negotiation skills

  • Timely decision making

  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with team members, and staff, and to work effectively in a professional team environment

  • Reporting and research skills, legal administration skills

  • Strong organizational and planning skills in a fast-paced environment, able to set priorities and meet deadlines

  • Hands-on, proactive, and problem-solving mentality; able to work on multiple projects in parallel

  • Ability to cope with confidential, complex matters and maintain discretion

  • Ability to work independently with excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills

  • Excellent legal research skills and experience using Westlaw

  • Show initiative and commitment to continuous professional development.

  • Proficiency with MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

What Will Set You Apart

  • Experience with the following platforms: Riskonnect, OpenText, Legal Tracker

  • Experience running or supporting claims management in a law firm or in-house

  • Experience with worker’s compensation, general liability, and auto liability claims is preferred
