Job Summary:

This Product Engineer must have the technical expertise to develop and lead product design projects, supervise product validation testing, drive to root cause for quality and reliability issues, interpret technical agency standards, and conduct projects in accordance with standard engineering practices.

The engineer will work closely with Product Management utilizing the engineered-to-order process to develop design variations that meet customer demands.

Where is the work:

This position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed onsite 3 days each week.

What you will do:

  • Validate design variations to ensure they meet required performance standards and customer specification compliance.

  • Support design of air handling units, which includes component engineering selections, air-handling equipment layouts, and specification development.

  • Generate equipment submittals.

  • Responsible for evaluating possible cost savings and/or cost problems that will occur on various projects.

  • Manage technical activities by serving as project engineer and technical reference for Airside design projects.

  • Prepare complete schedules and reports for assigned projects. Achieve scheduled milestones for assigned projects.

  • Support the development of Risk Assessments, Design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEAs).

  • Participate in Technical Design Reviews to ensure new designs have proper consideration for manufacture/assembly.

  • Define, identify and complete appropriate qualification testing activities.

  • Follow good engineering practices and develop practical solutions.

  • Develop, review and implement engineering and process changes to new and existing products.

  • Perform design analysis and calculations with accuracy.

  • Coordinate completion of technical drawings with designers.

  • Provide product engineering support to other functions within the business.

  • Create and maintain engineering documentation. Including technical reports, lab test results, drawings, and specifications.

  • Collaborate with production and engineering to meet project goals (Safety, Quality, Volume, Cost and Delivery).

  • Participate in RTS/Quality/VA-VE events to identify opportunities to improve product performance and / or reduce cost.

  • Provide support and feedback to the Quality and Operation teams.

  • Develop and/or update Trane purchased part Engineering Specifications.

  • Ability to travel domestically up to two weeks at a time. Expected travel time less than 15%.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required.

  • 3 years in product design engineering

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or MBA is a plus.

  • Excellent technical, analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to make progress by producing deliverables and completing projects in a multi-tasking environment (several concurrent assignments).

  • Must have ability to quickly and efficiently understand, condense and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions.

  • Team-oriented proactive change agent with a hands-on collaborative approach in implementation and maintaining operating disciplines while leveraging lean methodologies; leads positively and optimistically.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty.

  • Detailed understanding of HVAC system functions including heat transfer, airflow, filtration and ventilation.

  • Knowledge of product development process, mechanical design testing and qualification methods, design for manufacturing, business systems and business unit operations.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Lean Materials Flow.

  • Ability to use visual management and metrics to drive improvement.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint) and Oracle.

  • Experience with application of various components used within HVAC systems such as coils, filters, dampers, motors and fans.

Compensation:

Base Pay Range: $70,000 - $90,000

Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
