Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
The Paramedic is a CHI Saint Joseph Health professional whose primary focus is to provide emergency medical
care for patients accessing the emergency department. The individual will utilize a comprehensive care team
approach in collaboration with RN’s, physicians, and ancillary staff.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- While working under physician medical oversight, the Paramedic will assure quality of care by
following the scope of practice provided by the National EMS Scope of Practice Model and further
outlined by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. In addition, the individual is to align
their role within functions set forth by CHI Saint Joseph Health.
- Administers BLS, PALS, ACLS and critical care interventions following the orders and supervision of the
attending physician.
Performs triage, assessments, interventions and patient education as needed.
Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records in a timely manner.
Promotes patient’s independence by establishing personal rapport and care goals; teaching patients,
friends and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.
Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support.
Clearly identifies self as a licensed paramedic while operating.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to all CHI Saint Joseph Health policies, protocols,
procedures and regulations.
Willing to pursue new levels contributing to professional growth and development.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience: High school Diploma or equivalent. Graduate from a
nationally/state approved accrediting paramedic program.
Required Licensure and Certifications:
Unrestricted Kentucky Paramedic License.
Active BLS, ACLS, PALS American Heart Association
Certifications.
During the Paramedic’s orientation period, the
individual will be required to successfully complete an
approved Critical Care endorsement course to
maintain employment.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills,
Abilities and Training:
Demonstrated computer management skills.
Considerable knowledge of computer applications.
Must be able to communicate effectively in both
verbal and written formats.
Ability to break down problems or tasks; scanning
one’s own knowledge and experience to identify
causes and consequences of event.
Maintains confidentiality and protects sensitive data
at all times.
Adheres to organizational and department specific
safety standards and guidelines.
2 years of experience as a paramedic in a high volume
patient care services, approved Critical Care
endorsement, previous aeromedical, or clinical ER
experience.
Pay Range
$25.81 - $37.43 /hour
