Central Maine Medical Center Cardiac Implanted Electronic Device (CIED) Technician, Electrophysiology - full time in Lewiston, Maine

Position Summary:

Cardiac Implanted Electronic Device (CIED) Technician will provide thorough, proficient interrogation, and re-programming of CIED commonly known as implanted loop records (ILRs), pacemaker (PPM), and defibrillators (ICD). These cardiac device patients may be seen in person or be contacted by a representative via phone. Technicians may be responsible for initial device interrogation, preliminary report generation, and alerting providers or registered nurse to urgent issues requiring further attention.

Essential Duties:

  • Interrogates, reprograms and performs function analysis of CIED programming per provider order or protocol and under supervision of providers, inclusive of MD, PA, and NP.

  • Displays efficient knowledge and usage of various device programmers such as Boston Scientific, Medtronic, Merlin, and Biotronik.

  • Relays physician recommendations to the patients related to device adjustments.

  • Helps to coordinate remote monitoring programs such as Latitude, Carelink, Merlin.net, and Biotronik.

  • Displays knowledge of concepts related to the CIED interrogation and function analysis.

  • Displays knowledge/expertise to recognize normal vs. abnormal device function during device interrogations, and identify sub-optimal device programming for patients.

  • Documents appropriately to ensure correct coding of device services for accurate and timely billing.

  • Helps manage device patients through maintenance of data base and retrieval of data as requested.

  • Helps ensure timely scheduling of remote device monitoring (to include troubleshooting of disconnected home monitors) and in-office device checks.

  • Registers patients in appropriate web-based monitoring systems.

  • Schedules appropriate device check follow-ups (in-office or remote).

  • Assists with other duties as appropriate including but not limited to processing remote transmissions and communicating with outside organizations.

  • Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.

  • Maintains regulatory requirements.

  • Confidentiality: Maintains confidentiality of information at all times.

  • Safety: Demonstrates and understanding of fire and electrical safety, infection control, body mechanics, and related areas, as appropriate to position.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited degree program or high school diploma

  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) required

    Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years’ experience in managing CIED patients or equivalent years of CIED Industry experience

  • Certification by a device management accredited program

  • Paramedic or healthcare provider with proven ability and experience with cardiac devices

  • Experience reviewing or managing remote monitors including Latitude, Carelink, Merlin.net, and Biotronik.

  • Associate or Bachelor degree preferred but not required.

  • Demonstrates ability to work within various electronic programs

  • Self-motivated and able to work well independently.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Knowledge of Cardiovascular terminology.
