Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

We are currently hiring multiple Mechanical Design Engineers for an Automation Solutions provider in the Greater Columbus Area. This company specializes in custom automation, repeat automation, and a variety of automation products for industries such as life sciences, food & beverage, transportation, consumer products, and energy. Due to a large influx of projects, these positions will initially be 3-month contracts with a high probability of extension or transition to permanent roles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop concepts and well-engineered mechanical designs for mechanisms used in automated assembly systems.

  • Use SolidWorks to produce layout, assembly level, and detail drawings, bills of materials, and specifications.

  • Participate in design schedule development, review, and post-project review meetings.

  • Coordinate with other project team members to ensure consistency in designs meeting project goals as defined by the Lead Mechanical Designer, Mechanical Project Engineer, and Project Manager.

  • Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and related data to determine shape, dimensions, tolerances, and other design factors.

  • Develop, recommend, and apply sound construction concepts for cost-effective manufacturability, field interchangeability, tolerance management, maintainability, and functionality.

  • Recognize and develop prototypes of high-risk mechanisms.

  • Produce assembly and detail drawings to meet project schedules, utilizing existing company designs and commercially available items where practical.

  • Update and revise drawings as needed to meet functional requirements.

  • Review vendor capability and advance order long lead-time materials.

  • Generate adjustment procedures and spare parts lists for each mechanism as needed.

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly during the build phase.

  • Maintain proficiency with industry standards, methods, practices, and leading-edge technology.

  • Assist with the standardization of components and mechanisms.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of Automation Design experience.

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and other 3D CAD software.

  • Experience with automated equipment, automation systems, automated machinery, and conveyor systems.

  • Strong mechanical design and engineering skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. High-level experience may compensate for the absence of a degree.

  • Experience with turn-key equipment and mechanical engineering design.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $48.00
