Argonne National Laboratory Fire Protection Coordinator in Lemont, Illinois

Argonne National Laboratory is hiring a Fire Protection Coordinator, under supervision and with a degree of initiative, will provide operational, procurement, planning, and general technical area support while performing a wide range of activities and tasks. This individual will ensure the tasks are performed in a timely manner and have a general technical understanding of maintenance practices and operations. They will manage complex assignments using independent judgement facilitating effective and efficient flow and processing of information, support technical activities, and work associated with day-to-day operations as assigned by the Department Manager.

Specific Duties

  • Develops and updates building maps showing building layout and location of fire protection systems, alarms/notification systems and fire protection equipment.

  • Develops and maintains department work process and control documents such as division and department procedures and manuals.

  • Create work orders for technical tasks using the fire department management system (also Fmax and Service Now) and provide regular reports to department manager for compliance and backlog management.

  • Coordinate scheduling/planning of work orders with suppliers, foremen, supervisors, and managers.

  • Create and assist with Work Control Documents (WCD’s) utilizing the AWARE system.

  • Coordinates tracking and disposal of chemical wastes.

  • Procure equipment and materials for the department utilizing PARIS and ensure proper procurement processes are followed.

  • Function as point of contact as a Call Manager or Technical Rep on low/medium risk service and equipment rental contracts, including coordinating service calls, materials, and some technical direction.

  • Complete JSA’s for contracted services by coordinating with customers, suppliers, and safety professionals.

  • Provide technical support for department software development, division meetings, conferences, and workshops, as required.

  • Utilize several types of software to compile and analyze data, reports, presentations, and spreadsheets to improve process and efficiency for the respective department.

  • Act as liaison to BIS for software related improvement projects.

  • Function as the department property representative.

  • Function as department records representative.

  • Function as the department training coordinator, to monitor and maintain training compliance.

  • Some administrative responsibilities which are less than 20% for this position.

Position Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with at least 5 years of experience in facilities management or other related experience.

  • Interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and ability to interact with people at all levels both within and outside the Laboratory.

  • Analytical & technical problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve problems independently with incomplete or conflicting data.

  • Ability to think quickly when managing difficult situations and decision making for problem resolution.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, while being detail oriented and using sound independent judgment to accomplish tasks.

  • Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of Lab-wide systems and applications including those related to operations, procurement, CMMS (e.g., AWARE, AMOS, PARIS, FMAX, etc.) is a plus.

  • Knowledge, skills, and experience, including using features in editing documents, with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Mail and Calendar) and Adobe Acrobat

  • Ability to collaborate with Foreman and customers to schedule preventive maintenance.

Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, management, or technical field

  • Knowledge of Laboratory, Division & Departmental policies, practices, and procedures is desirable.
