The Lighting and Energy Solutions (L&ES) group of II provides comprehensive lighting and electrical engineering design and advisory services for all aspects of light, lighting and low-voltage energy. We work with clients across public and private sectors, locally and internationally and you will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and clients in the UK and globally.

The L&ES group specialises in six discipline areas:

Architectural Lighting : Providing specialist design solutions that are fully integrated within the architecture and, create spaces that are beautiful, comfortable, and inspiring.

Electrical & EV: We provide a comprehensive design and advisory consultancy service for all types of lighting / sign installations, plus electric vehicle charge points and market trader facilities.

Environmental Lighting: Obtrusive lighting advice to assist clients in making informed decisions to reduce the environmental impact of lighting from initial concept through to maintenance.

Local Government: Supporting clients with the delivery of daily activities including all aspects of design, smart space application, technical report development and asset management.

Strategic Road Network: Connecting the UK’s highways requires in-depth knowledge from initial network appraisal, survey support, optioneering, design, operation and management.

Technical Excellence: Providing specialist advice and support to facilitate sustainable and resilient change through research, policy, Future Ready and Expert Witness services.

As an Assistant Project Manager, you will join our L&ES team based around the UK. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of significant lighting and electrical projects for public and private sector clients. You will support the project delivery team in delivering project and programme management services, and the day-to-day operation of the L&ES business. In doing so you will follow agreed WSP Project Management systems and processes and agreed industry best practice provided by the Association for Project Management (APM).

We are flexible on the location of this role and it can be based out of any of the following offices: Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Hertfordshire, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle or Southampton

Your New Role, Whats Involved?

You will be required to assist with management of projects and programmes of work and we would love to hear from you if you have experience of:

  • Experience in working in highways and infrastructure projects is desirable but not essential.

  • Assist the Project Manager (PM) in developing project management documentation including project management plans, cost estimates and forecasts, risk registers, project schedules and stakeholder registers.

  • Assist the Project Manager in building & maintaining strong relationships with key clients, whilst forming trusting relationships with colleagues to ensure effective co-ordination for mutually beneficial outcomes.

  • Assist the PM in delivering the project in-line with WSP’s business management system ensuring compliance with quality management systems, and drive efficiencies throughout project execution.

  • Support the development of project proposals including determining project requirements, scope, resources, programme, and cost estimates (budgets) for project delivery.

  • Coordinate the monitoring and update of project schedules and progress against milestones.

  • Prepare health and safety information for site visits and seek necessary internal approvals.

  • Schedule meetings, take minutes and track actions.

  • Undertake information management activities via industry used Common Date Environments such as SharePoint and ProjectWise.

  • Work with multi-disciplinary project teams consisting of technical;/professional staff and suppliers.

  • Assist in the administration of supplier contracts.

We’d Love To Hear From You, If You Have:

  • An interest or experience within the services sector, a can-do attitude and a hunger to develop your career.

  • Experience in managing a range of project management activities, systems and processes.

  • APM or PRINCE professional qualifications would be desirable

  • Strong levels of communication (both in person and through digital channels)

  • Problem solving skills and great attention to detail

  • Collaboration and determination

  • Degree in a relevant discipline (such as environment, project or construction management, engineering, science, building or quantity surveying) or a combination of relevant project management experience and qualifications.

  • Some project experience, with a preference for a background in highways or infrastructure sectors.
