Dartmouth Health Medical Assistant II (MA), Dermatology Clinic in Lebanon, New Hampshire

Overview

The dermatology clinic is a fast pace environment with a strong and supportive team atmosphere.The care team includes MA's, LNA's, RN's and Providers. Dermatology is a collaborative specialty regularly engaging with Psychiatry, Rheumatology, Gynocology, and the Cancer Center for patient needs. The busy clinic sees X patients on average per day. The patient population is all ages with a high degree of challenging and complex cases being treated. The Dermatology clinic offers a wide variety of procedures and working 1-1 with doctors allowing you to follow along the full spectrum of care for each patient. The most common procedures include biopsy shave, punch, excisions, Mohs surgery.

Successful candidates are team orientated and curious with a desire to learn while provide excellent patient care. Located at Heater Rd, it offers an offsite location with ample parking.Clinic and typical shift hours are 8am-5pm, M-F.

MA's and LNA's on the unit support the providers as an extra set of hands during procedures. You will follow sterile techniques for room set up, perform pre-ops with patients, assist the provider with prepping and numbing the patient. You will also assist with bandages and wound care.

Responsibilities

Responsible for clinical duties such as taking vital signs, giving injections, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms at an outpatient care site.

  • Greets, checks in patients, and notifies appropriate provider. Prepares patient, room and equipment for procedures and exams.

  • Takes and records vital signs. Informs provider of patient vital signs and concerns.

  • Recognizes and treats emergency patients as a priority, assists with patient examinations and treatments.

  • Handles patient situations over the phone, schedules appointments and procedures with medical professionals. Understands limitations in dealing with patients over the phone, and involves nursing staff and providers.

  • Register new patients and establishes a medical record.

  • Prepares patient billings.

  • Assists patients by filling out insurance and other forms.

  • Supplies authorized information upon request by third party payors.

  • Instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures.

  • Collects and processes routine laboratory specimen.

  • Operates and maintains clinical equipment.

  • Maintains and uses aseptic technique including sterilization, disinfection and disposal of contaminated material.

  • Cleans, wraps and autoclaves instruments. Cares for supplies and equipment.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program required.

  • Previous experience in office or outpatient ambulatory care setting strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team.

  • Computer skills strongly preferred.

  • Must be willing and able to participate in evening, weekend, and holiday coverage according to needs of the department.

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • American Association Medical Assistants (AAMA) certified - CMA designation OR American Medical Technologists (AMT) registered – RMA designation OR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant plus 12 month D-H apprenticeship program – CCMA designation.

  • Current BLS certification required.

  • Area of Interest:LNA/MA;
