Position Description

KBR’s global business comprises two main segments – Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) and Government Solutions (GS). This role sits within STS in the Integrated Solutions business unit and is a key leadership role within KBR Engineering Operations.

KBR is looking for a Discipline Manager - Piping Engineering.

The applicant should have wide ranging and extensive experience with an emphasis on excellence in team leadership. You will be responsible for managing the piping engineering team, recruitment and ensuring projects are supported with resources, managing personnel and supporting projects. The applicant must have and maintain an understanding of the different sub-groups of piping engineering and market developments to ensure best practices are implemented throughout projects.

The position is based in KBR’s Leatherhead Campus.

Key Functions

  • Responsible for all aspects of engineering activities undertaken in piping engineering on proposals, projects and developments.

  • Coordinates with other Discipline Department Managers to integrate and meet company goals.

  • Monitors and adjusts levels of personnel, levels of skills, and development of skills in the technology.

  • Implements technology development and training plans for continuous improvement of project execution consistent with company goals.

  • Implements project quality control procedures in his/her technology area.

Relationships

  • Engineering Director

  • Reports to the Director of Engineering for process engineering group support.

  • Project Engineering Managers

  • Coordinates directly Project Engineering Managers on staffing requirements and conduct technical audits.

Responsibilities

Managing a team of piping engineers, you will advise, and contribute to the following:

  • Ensure that adequate personnel are available to support projects and corporate requirements. This requires forward planning for staff personnel.

  • Assist staff with setting goals and objectives and help provide opportunities for them to fulfil their career development. Support staff through mentoring and coaching.

  • Responsibility for all aspects of engineering activities undertaken within piping on proposals and projects.

  • Participate in the resolution of requests for correction or preventive action on projects.

  • Lead corporate piping development initiatives and assign resources to produce measurable outcomes.

  • Ensure the continued development and application of KBR technology, execution methods and procedures for projects.

  • Committed to building good relationships with other KBR operating centres to ensure a ONE KBR project execution is successful.

    Skills / Experience:

    Essential

  • Experience communicating across a multi-discipline team and across different offices.

  • Knowledge and proven experience in a Lead Engineer’s role, from pre-FEED to EPC. EPC experience is desirable.

  • Background should show a progression in roles from within the piping group into a leadership position.

  • Knowledge of codes and standards and their implications on the design.

  • Good communication skills to encourage and empower others.

  • Subject matter expert skills in one of the piping sub-disciplines

Desirable

  • Experience managing a large team and understanding how to manage personnel.

  • Experience training/mentoring younger engineers either informally or through a formal training scheme.

  • Chartered Engineer from a professional institution in UK (or equivalent)
