Title: Director, Worldwide Commercial Strategy & Operations and Performance Management

Position Summary

The Director Worldwide Commercial Strategy & Operations and Performance Management (WCS&O PM) will be a critical member of the WCS&O LT. The individual will act as a key business partner supporting the VP Strategic Portfolio Management to enhance strategic decision making and operational effectiveness across BMS' dynamic and complex portfolio. The role will also lead the S&O/PM team of 10 individuals spanning 4 therapeutic areas who are responsible for supporting WCPS brand teams, leading cross-functional matrix teams to drive market engagement strategies and positively impact business performance. The Director will partner closely with key stakeholders including Worldwide brand leads, matrix and functional area partners and S&O therapeutic area Senior Directors to understand and manage business priorities, lead key processes, manage S&O and PM resourcing needs across therapeutic areas, influence and problem solve, increase collaboration and best practice sharing across the team, guide and motivate team members with a focus on engagement and career development. The individual will report directly to the Executive Director, WCS&O and will support special projects, events and communications as defined by the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic thought partner to Vice President Worldwide Strategic Portfolio Management, supporting VP in development of team vision and strategic communications and related content or materials. In partnership with Finance, serve as advisor to VP on OPEX management including resource allocation, identification of risks and opportunities and tradeoffs, preparation of insights for senior leadership reviews, oversight of projections and budgets.

  • Accountable for implementation of newly centralized WCS&O PM operating model. Partnering across Executive Director, key stakeholders including Worldwide brand leads, matrix and functional area partners and S&O therapeutic area Senior Directors to implement the new model, solicit feedback and make adjustments as needed.

  • Direct leadership of 10 Associate Directors and Managers, partnering with key stakeholders to understand business priorities, influence, define and prioritize their book of work and ensure alignment and best practice sharing to gain efficiencies. Shape development plans, talent management and planning of the S&O team. Develop and implement standardized onboarding program for new hires

  • Support the execution of key enterprise processes across WCS&O and ensure timely delivery. In partnership with Finance, lead key financial processes across WCPS including Unified Strategic and Brand Planning, annual Budget and quarterly projections, OPEX management exercises, ensure timely reviews and data entry to our budget management system, COMPASS, reviews identification of risks and opportunities, manages tradeoffs. Drives strategy, design and preparation for key senior management reviews and presentations and provides consistency and insights into senior leadership reviews.

  • Support Executive Director, WCS&O in planning and executing critical business initiatives and driving innovation and change both organizationally and culturally. Lead / co-lead and participate in enterprise or functional special projects as needed.

  • Identify areas of engagement, synergy, best practices, and opportunity for improvement across WCS&O PM and WCS&O and implement solutions accordingly. Embed and drive a culture of innovation, collaboration, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications & Experience

  • BA/BS required. MBA, PharmD, or other graduate experience strongly preferred

  • 10-15 years combined experience across related disciplines, which can include Marketing, Sales, Access, Finance and Medical

  • Experience supervising, mentoring and managing a medium sized group of Associate Directors and Managers

  • Ability to motivate and guide teams with positive impact to culture and employee engagement and wellbeing as demonstrated by positive survey results

  • Experience setting key performance indicators to measure and improve team performance

  • Demonstrated ability to pinpoint and address core issues within business processes

  • Strong knowledge of biopharmaceutical industry; possesses a global understanding of end-to-end drug development and commercialization processes

  • Experience working cross-functionally at senior management level and ability to direct/guide complex business and enterprise-wide decision-making at leadership team and above

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and design, manage or implement multiple projects simultaneously

  • Results driven, with excellent organizational, analytical, and planning skillsExceptional leadership skills to effectively lead Associate Directors and Managers

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to successfully collaborate with and influence peers and teams making appropriate trade-offs as needed

  • Ability to work with cross-functional, matrixed teams, maintaining strong relationships and influencing outcomes

  • Effectively utilizes information technology systems and program management tools including systems (e.g., PowerPoint, MS project, Excel)
