The Packaging Specialist position reports through the Lawrence Production Center and may be in multiple departments. Individuals in these departments perform a variety of hand-oriented duties. This position can be in any department that has work for the Packaging Specialist role based on business need.

This position is Full-time schedule Sunday night - Friday morning, 11:30pm - 7:30am.

The Lawrence Packaging Specialist performs a variety of hand oriented duties that may include any or all of the following: unloading product (cards, packages, etc.) from a conveyor, table, etc. and placing on a skid, in stock boxes, on fixtures or cartons. May pull and grip cards from a large sheet or single levels. May scrap material from large sheets or one-up cards. May feed batch heads or operate manual equipment. May assist in production of envelopes by tending the press, feeding envelope blanks and boxing completed envelopes. May set up and operate label machines to provide a variety of printed labels. Incumbent is responsible for assisting with make ready, checking for production quality, preventive maintenance and handling required paperwork.

Responsible for reporting production related information and cleaning the equipment and work area. May assemble and pack various display units. May read and follow store floor plans and merchandising instructions. Positively participates in performance dialogues and other team problem-solving activities to effectively influence how we will accomplish the department goals within shorter periods of time. Flexibility is key as the incumbent will be expected to learn and perform multiple assignments within this job classification and may be assigned to multiple departments.

In this position you will:

  • Assist with all aspects of the different assignments with a focus on cross-training between departments. Assist with make-readies and inspect cards.

  • Assist the operator with maintaining specified production, such as throughput, OEE, etc., by placing cards/stock onto flat skid or in carton boxes or pack wholesale unit into cartons. Feed envelope blanks, pack envelopes into cartons, stack cartons on a pallet and maintain specified production.

  • Execute Quality System including preflight, checking products for accuracy, sampling plan, and the removal of salvage/spoilage by using a guide, shop sample or other approved methods.

  • Utilize good safety practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Ability to grasp, lift and carry product weighing up to 30 lbs frequently and 60 lbs occasionally

  • Ability to stand and walk approximately 95% of the time

  • Ability to reach, twist, bend, use repetitive hand/wrist motion and perform fine motor skills approximately 95% of the time

  • Ability to frequently work at or above shoulder level

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good math, written and oral communication skills

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • Good planning and organization skills to set up area

  • Ability to understand and follow established safety procedures

  • Ability to accept other duties as assigned

  • Ability to learn quickly and retain knowledge

  • Ability to work in a team environment and positively contribute during problem-solving meetings

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Work overtime as required during peak seasons.

  • This is a climate-controlled manufacturing environment with normal physical injury hazard.

  • There is some noise and hearing protection is required by Hallmark.

    This position is located in Lawrence, Kansas. Relocation is not provided.
