Activity Assistant

MUST: 1. Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. 2. Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language, receive written and oral directions, and complete essential job functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions 1. Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours. 2. Works in an office, throughout the facility, and in elder rooms. 3. Must relate to physically ill elders and at times hostile and emotionally upset elders. 4. Works beyond normal working hours and occasionally works weekends and holidays, as needed. 5. May be called during off-duty hours to respond to emergencies or unusual circumstances 6. May be required to lift, push, pull and move equipment and supplies in excess of fifty pounds. Continuing Education Requirements 1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 2. Must be able to function independently, be flexible, and work harmoniously with household members. 3. Being a CNA is preferred.

DUTIES: This position assists the Activities Director/Mentor in providing ongoing activities to meet the physical, mental and psychosocial needs of each elder/neighbor and the household. Primary Responsibilities and Duties 1. Participates as a team member and household member in helping to maintain the physical, social, and psychological environment for all households and communities. 2. Maintains a professional working relationship with all staff, elders, families, volunteers, and professionals. 3. Assists in facilitating each household's abilities to plan and carry out personal interests and social activities, including a diversity of opportunities for meaningful pursuits, daily pleasures, recreation, exercise, friendships, social interaction, growth and learning, fun and enjoyment, personal routines and household rituals. 4. Assists in assuring regulatory compliance by encouraging appropriate record keeping and charting in all households and by maintaining appropriate files to document compliance. 5. Maintains a safe, comfortable and functional environment by assessing the households for potential hazards, implementing practices utilizing appropriate techniques regarding sanitation, infection control, fire safety, disaster preparedness and emergency care. 6. Presents a professional image through dress, behavior, and speech. 7. Provides leadership and support of the Eden Alternative program and the mission, vision, and values of the community. 8. Adheres to all elder rights, including privacy, confidentiality, and treating elders with dignity and respect. 9. Inspects storage rooms for cleanliness, upkeep and supply control. 10. Serves on committees and/or attends meetings, as necessary, ensuring the support of elder centered care. 11. Meets with administration, nursing staff, and other departments in the home as necessary in planning programs for activities and special events. 12. Applies the principles of leadership to both the elders/neighbors and staff

Pay : $15.00 an hour or greater DOE. Paid on the 8th and the 23rd of the month

DURATION : Regular full time

SHIFT: Tuesday thru Saturday one evening activity. Hours are 8:00 am - 4.30 pm. Thursdays 11:00am - 7:30 pm
