PRE-MAKE READY/DIE MAKER JOB SUMMARY : Prepares steel rule/flat dies, print plates, and pin cylinders for use in press operation. Understands and can interpret customer requirements/organization as it relates to product specifications. Understanding of aligning business operations and the Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.To perform this job successfully, an individual must obey all Safety procedures. Individual must have excellent attendance, be able to work independently and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Primary Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Prepares steel rule/flat dies and maintains die organization

  • Prepares printing plates for job orders

  • Inspects printing plates for damage, removes from cylinders, and maintains plate organization

  • Lays new print plates and patches old plates

  • Pins/unpins cylinders as needed

  • Drills pin cylinders

  • Rebuilds die by changing rubber and knives

  • Review schedule, work orders and all make ready evaluation sheets

  • Maintain department integrity through compliance of safety

  • Maintains a clean work area. Housekeeping is imperative

  • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team environment.

  • Ability to interpret and translate designs and documentation.

  • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Thorough attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Thorough understanding of technical written (and verbal)

  • Basic computer and data entry skills.

  • Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.

  • Visual color discrimination, the ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of colors.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.

  • Excellent attendance

  • Performs other organizational duties as required

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Manufacturing experience working with steel rule/flat die preferred

  • Understanding of print manufacturing

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma preferred, technical school education, or equivalent.

Heavy mechanical skills in a manufacturing environment.

Two years of related manufacturing focus experience in a converting facility or similar type preferred.

Must have extensive knowledge of mechanical components.

Trained knowledge in mechanical assembly standards, or other applicable procedures and parts flow.

Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Frequent overtime may be required, depending on business need.

Flexibility to work any day/any shift is required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting, walking or standing, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods.

  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.

  • Lifting between 50-100 lbs frequently.

  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.

  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.

  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
